Controls and stands, not a wheel range

It is worth being clear about what this range is, because PXN is often described as a budget wheel brand. What we carry here are the parts that go around a wheelbase: the shifter, the handbrake, the pedals, the stand the whole lot bolts to, a button box, and a GT rim. Alongside those sits a set of flight controls.

That makes PXN useful in two situations. You are building a first setup and want each piece to be affordable without being disposable, or you already own a wheel and pedals and want to add a gearstick or a handbrake without spending what the wheel cost.

Shifters: H-pattern, sequential, or both

There are three to choose between and the difference is the gate. An H-pattern shifter moves through a numbered gate the way a road car does, which suits classic cars, touring cars and truck simulation. A sequential shifter pulls back and pushes forward through consecutive gears, which is what most modern race cars use.

Handbrakes, and what you bolt one to

A handbrake earns its place the moment you drive rally or drift. Lifting the rear with a lever is a different input from stabbing a button, and it is the piece people add first once they stop driving circuits exclusively. The full metal unit here can be set with the grip vertical or horizontal depending on how you like to pull it.

Mounting is the part people forget. If you are on a desk rather than a rig, the desk clamp bracket gives the handbrake something solid to sit on, because a handbrake that moves when you pull it is worse than no handbrake. See the alternatives in our sim racing handbrakes range.

Load cell pedals and the third pedal

A load cell brake measures how hard you press rather than how far the pedal travels, which is how a real brake behaves. It is the single upgrade that changes lap times most for a lot of drivers, because you start braking to a pressure you can repeat instead of guessing at a distance.

The set here sits on an aluminium base plate with carbon fibre faces, and the clutch pedal is also sold on its own if you are adding a third pedal to a two pedal set you already own. Our sim racing pedals range covers the wider field.

Wheel stands

A stand is the cheap way to stop clamping a wheel to the dining table. It holds the wheel, the pedals and usually a shifter in a fixed relationship to each other, so every session starts from the same position rather than wherever the clamp happened to land.

The three stands here differ in how much they adjust and what they will carry, including whether a shifter plate is part of the frame. They fold down when you are not driving, which is the point of a stand over a cockpit. Flight controls

The flight side of the range runs from a single joystick up to a stick and throttle set. A single stick is enough to fly with and takes up almost no desk, while a separate throttle gives your left hand something to do and makes power changes a physical movement rather than a key press.

Hat switches and base buttons let you map view, trim and gear without reaching for the keyboard, which is most of what makes a flight sim feel like flying. Our flight simulator controls range covers yokes, rudder pedals and the rest of the category.

The GT ONE rim, and what it mounts to

Read this before you add the GT ONE to your cart, because it is a rim and not a complete wheel. It is a PC device, so it will not work on PlayStation or Xbox, and it needs a wheelbase to bolt onto.

The included quick release fits PXN VD Series and V12 Series wheelbases directly. Any other wheelbase, with a bolt spacing of 50 to 70mm, needs the optional PXN Z QS Adapter, which is sold separately. If you are not on a PXN base, call us before you order and we will check what you need against the base you own. Our take

PXN is a brand I am comfortable recommending without hedging. It is an affordable way into sim racing and it stretches a good way up from there, with gear in the range that holds its own against kit costing considerably more. We have used it ourselves rather than simply stocked it, and it gets the thumbs up from us. The one thing to watch is compatibility: check what each piece connects to before you order, because that is where a range built in separate pieces catches people out.

Is PXN a wheel brand?

Not in the range we carry. What we stock from PXN is the gear that goes around a wheelbase: shifters, handbrakes, load cell pedals, wheel stands, a button box and a GT rim, plus a set of flight controls.

Does the PXN GT ONE work on PlayStation or Xbox?

No. The GT ONE is a PC device. It is configured through PXN's own software and through SimHub on Windows.

Which wheelbases does the GT ONE fit?

It mounts directly to PXN VD Series and V12 Series wheelbases using the quick release in the box. Any other wheelbase with a bolt spacing of 50 to 70mm needs the optional PXN Z QS Adapter, which is sold separately.

Will a PXN shifter or handbrake work with the wheel I already own?

It depends on your wheel and how it connects. Each product page lists what it works with. If you are not sure, tell us which wheel and base you own and we will confirm it before you buy anything.

Do I need a wheel stand, or will a desk do?

A desk clamp is fine for an entry-level wheel. Once the forces go up, a desk that shifts under load takes the precision straight back out of the steering, and that is when a stand or a cockpit starts to pay.

Yes. We are an authorised PXN reseller, so everything here is genuine and comes with its manufacturer warranty, handled locally by our team alongside your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
