PRO or RS: Which Logitech Direct Drive

Both ranges are direct drive, which means the motor turns the steering shaft with no belts or gears in between. The Logitech G PRO Wheel is the stronger of the two, with the higher peak torque and the firmer load cell brake in its matching pedals. The Logitech RS50 Direct Drive Wheel sits below it.

Take the PRO if you want the most force feedback detail Logitech makes and you are mounting it to a rigid cockpit. Take the RS50 if you are stepping up from a belt or gear driven wheel and want room to add parts over time. Both use TRUEFORCE, which reads in game physics and audio rather than working from steering forces alone.

Complete Systems, or Build It Up

If you want one purchase that covers the wheel and the pedals, the Logitech RS50 Bundle pairs the RS50 base with the RS Pedals, and the Logitech G PRO Bundle pairs the PRO base with the PRO Pedals. Each comes in a PlayStation and PC version and an Xbox and PC version.

Building up instead means starting with a base and adding to it. That suits anyone who already owns pedals worth keeping, or who would rather spread the cost across a few purchases. Wheelbases on their own, across every brand we carry, are in direct drive wheelbases.

Rims, Hubs and Swapping Between Them

The Logitech RS Wheel Hub is what makes the RS range modular. It carries the quick release, the adjustable shifter paddles and the rev lights, and the rims bolt onto it, so moving from a GT shape to an open wheel shape is a rim swap rather than a new base.

Three rims share that hub: the flat bottom RS Track Wheel, the round RS Round Wheel and the RS Formula Wheel McLaren Edition. The MOMO x Logitech wheels are the other route, made with MOMO for drivers who want a motorsport rim on a Logitech base.

Pedals, Shifters and Handbrakes

Pedals change lap times more than most people expect. The Logitech G PRO Pedals and the Logitech RS Pedals both use a load cell brake, which reads how hard you press rather than how far the pedal travels, so braking becomes repeatable instead of guesswork. The RS Clutch Module adds a third pedal to the RS set.

Which Platform You Race On

Logitech sells platform specific versions of its wheelbases, so the console you race on decides which one you buy. The version is set at purchase rather than switched later, so it is worth checking the option you have selected before you order. Every version listed here also runs on PC.

Mounting Logitech Gear to a Rig

Direct drive puts real force through whatever it is bolted to. A wheel deck that flexes takes the detail straight back out again, which is why a rigid cockpit matters more with these bases than it did with a belt driven wheel. Cockpits are in sim racing cockpits, and the rest of the wheel range is in sim racing wheels.

If you drive from the seat rather than a desk, the Logitech K400 Touchpad Keyboard puts a keyboard and a trackpad in one hand for menus and pit commands, and the mounts that hold it within reach are in keyboard and mouse trays.

What is the difference between the Logitech PRO and RS ranges?

The PRO is the higher torque base and comes with the firmer load cell brake in its matching pedals. The RS50 sits below it and is the more modular platform, built around a hub that takes three different rims. Both are direct drive and both use TRUEFORCE.

Will a Logitech wheelbase work on my console?

Logitech makes platform specific versions. Check whether the one you are looking at is the PlayStation and PC version or the Xbox and PC version before ordering, because the platform is set by the version rather than by a setting. Both run on PC.

What is TRUEFORCE?

It is Logitech's force feedback layer that reads in game physics and audio, so road texture, kerbs and engine vibration come through the rim, rather than being worked out from steering forces on their own. Support varies by title.

Can I put a different rim on a Logitech base?

Within the RS range, yes. The RS Wheel Hub carries the quick release, and the Track, Round and Formula McLaren Edition rims all mount onto it, so one base can run several rims.

Do I need a cockpit for a Logitech direct drive wheel?

Not strictly, but the mount matters. A desk clamp that flexes under load absorbs the detail the base is producing, so a rigid frame gets you more out of the same hardware.

Are Logitech pedals compatible with other wheelbases?

The RS and PRO pedals are built for Logitech bases. Using them with another brand depends on the connection and is not guaranteed, so it is worth a call before you assume it will work.
