View full detailsA complete flight simulator setup arrives matched, so the frame, the controls and the pedals are already chosen to work together. These are built and supported in Australia, with local warranty cover and someone to talk to before you commit to a cockpit.
Read MoreFour things do the work. A rigid flight simulator cockpit to mount everything to, the flight controls themselves, rudder pedals for the feet, and a display arrangement that puts the horizon where your eyes expect it.
The frame matters more than people expect. A yoke pulled against an unbraced desk moves the desk rather than the aircraft, and everything the hardware is telling you gets lost in that movement. Getting the mounting right first is what makes the rest of the setup behave.
Both work. Buying piece by piece spreads the cost and lets you choose every part, at the price of working out what bolts to what, which bracket you need and whether the pedals clear the frame. Plenty of people enjoy that part.
A matched setup removes it. Every component is chosen against the others, the mounting is already solved, and you spend the first evening flying rather than measuring. It is the more practical answer if you know what you want the finished cockpit to do and would rather not assemble it twice.
An entry setup is a compact frame, a yoke or stick, pedals and a single screen. It is enough to fly properly and it leaves room to grow, which matters because almost nobody stops at the first build.
An advanced home cockpit runs a rigid aluminium profile frame, higher-end controls and a multi-display or ultrawide arrangement on monitor stands. The frames are modular, so a setup bought at the entry end takes the upgrade later rather than being replaced.
A yoke replicates the control column in airliners and general aviation aircraft, which is what most people flying Microsoft Flight Simulator or X-Plane are in. If civilian flying is the point, start there.
A joystick suits military aircraft, aerobatics and anything where the centre stick and twist axis do the work, and a HOTAS pairs that stick with a matched throttle. Separate throttles can be added to either arrangement later.
The range here runs as a ladder rather than a catalogue. The Stage 1 setup is a complete cockpit you can fly the day it lands. Stage 2 steps up the frame and the controls for someone who already knows they are staying. There is an Xbox setup for console pilots, because the console needs hardware built and approved for it and a PC build does not carry across.
At the top of the ladder the frame starts moving. The MOZA HMA150 motion setup adds actuators under a full cockpit, which is the point at which a home flight simulator stops being a desk with good hardware on it and starts telling you things through the seat. It is a serious purchase and worth a conversation before you make it, but it is the honest answer to how far a home build can go.
A frame to mount to, a yoke or stick, rudder pedals and a display. Everything beyond that is refinement. The order most people buy in is controls first, then pedals, then the frame, which is backwards, because the frame is what makes the controls behave.
It is arguably where it helps most. The compatibility questions that slow a first build down are already answered, so the learning goes into flying rather than into bracket part numbers.
Yes. Aluminium profile frames are designed to take more hardware over time, so a yoke today does not stop a throttle quadrant, a second screen or a motion platform joining it later.
Yes. Microsoft Flight Simulator and X-Plane are what nearly every customer building one of these is flying, and the hardware here is built around them.
For most setups, yes. PC is where flight simulation has the most hardware support and the most headroom. Some control hardware also runs on console, and if that is your plan, say so before you order because the compatible list is narrower.
Less than people assume for an entry build, and a fixed footprint for an advanced one. The deciding factor is usually the display rather than the frame. Tell us the room and we will tell you honestly what fits.
Gamer Gear Direct is an authorised dealer for the brands in these setups, so every part is genuine, covered by its manufacturer warranty and backed by your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Stock ships from our Adelaide warehouse and warranty support is handled locally rather than through an overseas returns process.
A cockpit is a big enough purchase to be worth a conversation first. Call us on (03) 9961 0240 Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, or come and sit in one at our Dandenong South showroom in Melbourne before you decide anything.
