Wheel Stands

A racing wheel stand holds your wheel, pedals and shifter at a proper driving height without taking over the room, then folds away when you are done. Every stand here is supported in Australia, with local warranty cover and a team you can call before you commit to one.

Wheel stand or full cockpit?

The honest answer is that it turns on the room more than the budget. A wheel stand puts the wheel and pedals where they belong and then disappears into a cupboard, which is the whole point if the setup shares a living room or a bedroom. A cockpit does not move, and in exchange it carries a seat and a fixed driving position that never needs resetting.

Where the decision usually turns is seating. A stand is used with whatever chair you already own, so seat height and distance are only ever roughly right. If you want the same position every session, look at racing simulator cockpits instead. We have also written a longer guide to choosing a wheel stand if you want to think it through first.

The stands in this range

The Trak Racer FS3 V2 is the heaviest built of the group. It adjusts for height, angle and distance, so the wheel deck and the pedal plate can each be set to suit you rather than one being compromised around the other. It is the one to start with if the wheel going on it is a serious one. See the Trak Racer FS3 V2 Wheel Stand.

The PXN stands, the A9, A10 and A11, sit below it and cover the entry and middle of the range. All three take a wheel, a pedal set and a shifter, and all three fold. They suit a first proper setup, or a second stand for another room.

Direct drive on a folding stand

A direct drive wheelbase puts far more load through its mount than a belt or geared wheel does, and a frame that flexes gives that torque somewhere to go other than your hands. That is the one thing worth checking before you buy: the wheel deck wants to be metal with a proper bolt pattern, not a plate that depends on a clamp.

A folding stand can carry a direct drive base and plenty of them do. What it will not do is behave like a bolted aluminium profile rig at the top of the torque range, so if you are running a strong base and chasing the last of the detail, the frame becomes the limit before the wheel does.

Consoles, PC and where the pedals go

A wheel stand does not care what it is plugged into. Compatibility is a question about the wheel, not the frame, so a stand that fits your wheel behaves the same on PlayStation, Xbox or PC. What varies between stands is the bolt pattern on the wheel deck and whether the pedal plate is drilled for the pedals you own.

The pedal plate is the part most people underestimate. A load cell brake is pushed against rather than tapped, so the plate needs bracing or the whole stand walks forward under braking. Check your pedals against the plate before you choose, and the same goes for a shifter if you run one.

Racing wheel stand FAQs

Can you use a racing wheel without a stand?

You can clamp one to a desk, and for a light wheel that works. It stops working as torque goes up, because the desk flexes, the clamp creeps and the pedals slide on carpet. A stand fixes the wheel and the pedals to the same frame, which is what keeps the geometry from moving while you drive.

What is the best wheel stand for racing?

There is no single answer, and anyone giving you one is guessing at your room. Match the stand to the wheel: a strong direct drive base wants the stiffest frame you can get, while an entry wheel is well served by a lighter folding stand. Then check it folds small enough for where you actually need to put it.

Can I get a racing wheel stand with a seat?

A stand with a seat attached is really a compact cockpit, and that is the category to shop rather than this one. Wheel stands are designed to be used with a chair you already have, which is what lets them fold flat. If you want a seat in the picture, start with our racing simulator cockpits.

Will a wheel stand hold a direct drive wheelbase?

Many will. Look for a metal wheel deck with a bolt pattern that matches your base, and expect some flex at the top of the torque range compared with a fixed aluminium profile rig. If you are unsure whether your base and stand pair up, call us before you order.

Do these stands fold flat for storage?

Yes. Folding is the reason to buy a stand rather than a cockpit, and every stand here collapses down to stand against a wall or slide beside a couch. How small it goes varies by model, so check the folded dimensions on the product page if space is tight.

Can I add a monitor to a wheel stand?

Not to the stand itself in most cases. A freestanding monitor stand placed in front is the usual answer, and it has the advantage of staying put when the wheel stand folds away.
