Why a Load Cell Handbrake Feels Different

The cheapest handbrakes are switches. You pull, the game sees a button press, and the car does one thing. A load cell measures how hard you pull rather than how far the lever travels, which turns a single input into a range: a light squeeze to rotate the nose, a full pull to break the rear away completely.

That range is what matters on a loose surface, where the difference between rotating the car and spinning it is how much you asked for rather than whether you asked at all. It is the same reason a load cell brake pedal beats a potentiometer on the sim racing pedals side of the rig.

What We Stock

The MOZA HBP is the compact load cell option and the one most people start with. The VNM Simulation Handbrake V1.5 sits above it, with a high capacity load cell in an all aluminium body and a handle that sets to seven angles between upright and flat, so it suits a vertical rally pull or a lower layout beside the seat.

If you would rather buy the shifter and the handbrake together, the Logitech RS Shifter and Handbrake covers both, and the Turtle Beach VelocityOne Multi-Shift adds an analogue handbrake mode to an H-gate gearbox. Our sim racing shifters range covers the shifter side on its own.

Mounting, Clamps and Platforms

Two things catch people out. Mounting hardware is not always in the box, so work out whether you need a desk clamp or bolts for a rig before you order, and check the bolt pattern against the side plate on your sim racing cockpit if you are mounting to aluminium profile.

The second is platform support. Some handbrakes are PC only, and a console setup will usually need the handbrake to route through a compatible wheelbase or shifter rather than connecting on its own. Tell us what you are running and we will confirm it before you buy rather than after.

Sim Racing Handbrake FAQs

Do I actually need a handbrake for sim racing?

Only if you drive rally, drift, or anything else that needs the rear to rotate. On tarmac circuit racing you will barely touch it, and the money is better spent on pedals or a wheelbase first.

Load cell or a button handbrake?

A button gives you one input. A load cell reads how hard you pull, so you can meter it, and that is the difference between rotating the car and spinning it. If you are buying a handbrake at all, buy one you can modulate.

Will a sim racing handbrake work on PlayStation or Xbox?

Some will and some are PC only. Console support usually depends on routing through a compatible wheelbase or shifter rather than plugging the handbrake straight in, so check the model you are looking at or ask us first.

Are mounting clamps included?

Not always. Some ship with a desk clamp and some expect you to bolt them to a rig using hardware bought separately. It is listed on each product page, and it is worth checking before the box arrives.
