PXN HBS Full Metal Handbrake
The PXN HBS is a full metal sim racing handbrake for PC. It adds a proper pull-up handbrake to your setup for rally, drifting and hairpin turns, with a housing and lever made from aluminium alloy rather than plastic.
Inside, a 16-bit Hall-effect magnetic encoder reads the lever position without physical contact, so there is nothing to wear out as the handbrake is used. The feel can be tuned by swapping the spring and damping rubber, and the grip switches between a vertical and a horizontal position.
It connects by USB and is plug and play on Windows, running alongside your wheel as a separate device. It is part of the PXN sim racing range and is designed to bolt to a rig or wheel stand, or to clamp to a desk with the PXN ZD1 Handbrake Desk Clamp.
Key features
- Aluminium alloy housing and lever
- 16-bit Hall-effect magnetic encoder
- Non-contact sensor for a longer service life
- Force tuned by swapping the spring and damping rubber
- Travel adjustable from 16mm down to 10mm
- Vertical or horizontal grip position
- Can be remapped as a button in PXN software
- USB plug and play on Windows PC
A 16-bit sensor that does not wear
The HBS uses a 16-bit magnetic encoder to measure the lever angle. Because it is a non-contact Hall-effect design, there is no wiper rubbing on a track as there is in a potentiometer, which keeps the signal stable and extends the life of the sensor.
The output is linear through the pull, so a light tug gives a small input and a full pull gives full handbrake. That lets you use it for a quick flick into a hairpin as well as a full handbrake turn.
Adjust the force and the travel
The feel of the lever comes from a spring and damping rubber inside the housing. Swap them to change how much force the handbrake needs and how quickly it reaches full input, so you can set it lighter or firmer to suit your driving.
Travel is 16mm as standard and can be shortened to 10mm by replacing a part, for a snappier action with less movement of your arm.
Vertical or horizontal grip
The grip can be set vertically, like the hydraulic handbrake in a rally or drift car, or horizontally, closer to the lever in a road car. Pick the one that suits the cars you drive and the space beside your seat.
In PXN's software the handbrake can also be remapped to act as another function, such as a button, if a game makes better use of it that way. See our full range of sim racing handbrakes for other options.
Our expert take
"For a PC driver who wants to add a handbrake for rally and drifting without paying for a hydraulic unit, the HBS covers the essentials: an all-metal body, a contactless 16-bit sensor, and a feel you can change with the spring and damper."
"The caveat is mounting. It does not include a desk clamp, so it needs to bolt to a rig or a wheel stand with a handbrake plate. If you race at a desk, add the PXN ZD1 Handbrake Desk Clamp, and if you need a stand, have a look at our wheel stands."

Frequently asked questions
Will the PXN HBS work with my racing wheel?
Yes, on PC. The HBS connects by its own USB cable and shows up as a separate device, so you map it in game alongside your wheel. PXN lists the PXN V3, V900, V9, V10 and V12 and Logitech G27, G29, G920 and G923 among compatible setups. Browse our racing wheels if you are building from scratch.
Does it work on PlayStation or Xbox?
No. The PXN HBS is compatible with Windows PC only.
Does it come with a desk clamp?
No. The HBS fixes to a rig or stand with M5 screws. To use it on a desk, add the PXN ZD1 Handbrake Desk Clamp, PXN's dual-clamp bracket made for the HBS.
Can I change how the handbrake feels?
Yes. Swapping the spring and damping rubber changes the force and how quickly the lever reaches full input, and the travel can be shortened from 16mm to 10mm by replacing a part.
Can I use the handbrake as a button?
Yes. PXN's software lets you remap the handbrake to another function, such as a button, for games that use it that way.
