What a Belt Tensioner Adds

A wheelbase talks to your hands and pedals talk to your feet. A belt tensioner is the only part of a rig that talks to your torso, which is where you actually feel deceleration and load transfer when you drive. That makes it one of the few upgrades that adds a genuinely new channel of feedback rather than sharpening one you already have.

It is not the same thing as motion. A motion simulator moves the whole rig. A tensioner stays still and works the belts, so it fits a static cockpit and takes far less room, and it can also run alongside motion hardware.

Qubic System QS-BT1 Direct Drive Tensioner

The Qubic System QS-BT1 is a dual-channel direct drive unit built on the same technology platform as the Qubic System QS-220. It generates up to 200 N of pull on each belt, which is what allows it to reproduce braking, lateral acceleration, cornering load, wheel lock and traction loss rather than a general rumble.

It runs standalone on a static rig or alongside a motion platform, and it also suits flight simulation for high-G effects. Tuning and diagnostics run through Qubic's QubicManager software on Windows PC.

Mounting It to Your Cockpit

Belt tension pulls hard and at an angle, so the mounting decides whether the effect feels sharp or vague. The Trak Racer QS-BT1 Seat Belt Tensioner Bracket is 3mm powder coated aluminium, 488mm wide, and fits under seat brackets or seat slider rails, which is what makes it suit cockpits generally rather than one specific frame. It is the bracket only, and the tensioner is a separate unit.

Qubic specify a rigid aluminium profile cockpit for the QS-BT1, so check your frame before ordering. Our sim racing cockpits range covers the profile rigs that suit it. If you are running motion, the tensioner mounts to the section that moves with the seat.

What Else You Need

A tensioner only works if there is a harness to tension, and a conventional lap belt will not do it. Qubic advise against four point harnesses with the QS-BT1 and recommend a five or six point harness for proper anchoring. The seat has to be slotted for one as well, so check the shell before you plan the install. Our racing seats range shows which seats take harnesses.

Plan the cockpit, the seat and the harness together. Retrofitting a harness to a seat that was never designed for one is not worth attempting, and the tensioner will not feel right without it.
