What Is a Motion Flight Simulator?

A motion flight simulator is a cockpit mounted on a motion platform that physically moves in response to flight data from your simulation software. Electric actuators convert aircraft telemetry into controlled movement, so pitch, roll and heave happen under you as the aircraft flies.

That is the difference between watching an approach and flying one. A static rig gives you visuals and control feel. Motion adds the cue your inner ear is waiting for, which is why training simulators have used moving platforms for decades.

The GGD x MOZA HMA150 Package

Our flagship flight rig is the GGD x MOZA HMA150 Motion Flight Simulator Package. It mounts a Trak Racer TR160 flight cockpit on the MOZA HMA150 motion platform, which moves the whole frame in pitch, roll and heave off the simulator's telemetry.

The controls move too. A MOZA AY90 force feedback yoke and a MOZA AB6 base with the MHG flight stick load your hands while the platform loads your body, with the MOZA MTQ modular throttle quadrant and MOZA MRP all-metal rudder pedals finishing the set. It is a base package, and every part of it can be upgraded when you order.

Motion Without the Full Rig

If you already have a cockpit, the MOZA HMA150 Motion System is sold on its own and mounts to a compatible frame. Platforms and actuator bases from Sigma Integrale, Trak Racer and Qubic System sit in motion simulators, and the racing version of this package is the GGD x MOZA HMA150 Motion Simulator Package.

Not every cockpit will take a motion platform. Motion loads a frame in ways static use never does, so frame rigidity and the mounting pattern decide what is possible. Worth a call before you commit to one.

What Goes Into a Flight Rig

The platform is one part of the setup. The frame comes from flight simulator cockpits, the yokes, sticks and throttles from flight simulator controls, and the rudder pedals that coordinate your turns are a category of their own.

Can I upgrade my existing flight simulator to motion?
