Sim Racing Dashboards

A sim racing dashboard puts live telemetry where your eyes already are, so speed, gear, fuel and shift lights stop competing with the corner in front of you. Gamer Gear Direct stocks MOZA and Pokornyi Engineering dash displays in Australia, sized for any rig.

What a dash display puts in front of you

The job of a dash is to get the numbers out of a menu and into your peripheral vision. Speed, gear, lap and sector times, fuel, tyre temperatures and the shift lights all sit on a screen above the wheel, where a glance costs you nothing. The RGB light strips along the top do the same job without reading anything at all: rev lights for the shift point, flag colours for what is happening behind you.

That matters most when you are tired. In a long stint, the moment you stop decoding a wheel screen mid-corner is the moment your lap times stop drifting. Pair one with a button box and the controls and the data end up in the same place.

Pit House or SimHub, and why it matters

This is the decision most buyers miss. The Pokornyi Engineering PDU dashes run on SimHub, the telemetry software most sim racers already have installed, which means an enormous library of community layouts and full control over what every LED does. They connect over USB-C and work independently of what wheelbase you run.

The MOZA CM2 HD Racing Dash goes the other way, driven natively through MOZA Pit House with no plugins to configure. It connects to a MOZA wheelbase directly, or over USB to a PC if the rest of your rig is another brand. Neither approach is better. If you already live in SimHub, stay there; if your rig is MOZA and you want it to work out of the box, Pit House is the shorter road.

Screen size, mounting and what else you need

Size is mostly about how far the screen sits from your eyes. A 5-inch dash suits a wheel-mounted or close-coupled position and keeps the cockpit clean. The 6.8-inch PDU7 gives you room for a denser layout and reads better from further back, which is the one to look at if your screen sits out past the wheel on a sim racing cockpit rather than a desk.

One thing worth knowing before you order: the Pokornyi PDU5 and PDU7 ship with thumb screws and a USB-C cable, but the mounting bracket is a separate line item, so add it to the order if you do not already have a mount that fits. The MOZA CM2 includes its own adjustable-height mount. If you are building the rig around a direct drive wheelbase, work out where the dash sits before you bolt the wheel deck down.

Our take

A dash display earns its place the moment you stop glancing down mid-corner. Shift lights, fuel and tyre temps sit where your eyes already are, and the difference shows up most in long stints when concentration starts to go. The honest caveat is that if you already run a wide in-game dash on triples, the gain is smaller than the forums will tell you. It is the drivers on a single screen, or anyone racing to a fuel number, who feel it immediately.

Sim racing dashboard FAQs

What is a sim racing dashboard?

A small screen that mounts in your cockpit and shows live telemetry from the game: speed, gear, RPM, lap and sector times, fuel and tyre data. Most also carry RGB light strips for shift points and flags.

Do I need SimHub?

For the Pokornyi Engineering PDU dashes, yes, that is what drives the display and the LEDs. The MOZA CM2 HD runs natively through MOZA Pit House instead and does not need a third-party plugin.

Will a dash work with my wheelbase?

The Pokornyi dashes connect over USB-C and work independently of the wheelbase brand. The MOZA CM2 HD connects straight to a MOZA base, or over USB to the PC for other setups.

Is a bracket included?

The MOZA CM2 HD comes with an adjustable-height mount. The Pokornyi PDU5 and PDU7 include thumb screws and a cable, but the mounting bracket is ordered separately.

Is a dash better than a wheel with a built-in screen?

It is bigger and easier to read at a glance, and it stays put while the wheel turns. A wheel screen is more compact and one less thing to mount. Plenty of drivers run both.

What size should I get?

Judge it by distance. A 5-inch screen is right up close to the wheel, while the 6.8-inch is easier to read if the dash sits further forward on a rig.
