Yoke or HOTAS: Which Logitech Setup

If you fly airliners and light aircraft, a yoke is the closer match to the real control column. The Logitech G PRO Flight Yoke System runs on a stainless steel elevator and aileron shaft with precision bearings, and it ships with a three lever throttle quadrant, so the throttle, flaps and mixture side of the cockpit is covered in one box.

For combat and space flying, a hands on throttle and stick set puts weapons and systems under your fingers. The Logitech G X56 Rhino HOTAS splits the throttle into two independent levers and adds thumb mini sticks for six degrees of freedom. The Logitech G X52 Pro Flight Control System brings non contact sensing on the stick axes and a multifunction display, and the Logitech G X52 Flight Control System is the starting point in the same family.

A Cockpit That Builds Up

The yoke has a USB hub built into it, which is what turns this range into a cockpit rather than a single control. Panels plug into the yoke instead of competing for ports on your PC, so you can start with the yoke and add to the dash as you go.

The Logitech G PRO Flight Switch Panel handles landing gear, lights and engine start. The Logitech G PRO Flight Multi Panel gives you autopilot and trim, the Logitech G PRO Flight Radio Panel puts the radio stack on real dials, and the Logitech G PRO Flight Instrument Panel adds configurable instrument displays beside the main screen.

Rudder, Brakes and Extra Levers

A twist stick handles rudder well enough to get flying, but it cannot brake one wheel at a time. The Logitech G PRO Flight Rudder Pedals are self centring with differential left and right toe brakes and a tension dial, which is what makes taxiing and crosswind landings behave the way they should. The wider range is in rudder pedals.

A second Logitech G PRO Flight Throttle Quadrant adds another three programmable levers for multi engine aircraft, and the levers are detachable so you can arrange throttle, prop pitch and mixture the way your aircraft expects. Throttles across every brand we carry are in flight sim throttles.

This Range Is PC Only

Every Logitech control on this page is built for a Windows PC. None of it runs on PlayStation or Xbox, and that is set by the hardware rather than by a setting, so it is the first thing to check before you order. If you fly on a console, the brands that support it are in flight simulator controls.

Mounting the Range

The yoke and the throttle quadrant clamp to a desk edge, and the rudder pedals sit on the floor, so a hard surface helps keep everything where you put it. A frame built for the job holds the lot at a consistent position instead, and those are in flight simulator cockpits. Sticks and throttles from the rest of the range are in HOTAS and flight simulator yokes, and Logitech's racing side sits in Logitech sim racing.

Our take

Logitech covers more of a flight cockpit than almost anything else we carry, from a first yoke or stick right through to the panels that fill out the dash. The build quality holds across the range rather than thinning out at the cheap end, which is what makes Logitech a sensible brand to buy into if you expect to add pieces over a few years rather than buy once. The caveat worth knowing before you spend anything is that all of it is PC only, so a console pilot should look elsewhere.

Logitech Flight Simulation FAQs

Do Logitech flight controls work on Xbox or PlayStation?

No. Every yoke, stick, pedal set, quadrant and panel in this range is built for a Windows PC, and the platform is fixed by the hardware rather than by a setting.

Should I buy a yoke or a HOTAS?

It follows what you fly. Airliners and light aircraft suit a yoke, because that is the control column the real aircraft uses. Combat and space sims suit a stick and throttle, where you need weapons and systems under your fingers without reaching for the keyboard.

What is the difference between the X52 and the X52 Pro?

Logitech describes the Pro as the upgraded X52. It adds a dual spring centring mechanism, non contact sensing on the stick axes and illuminated controls, and its display can show and work with radio stack information in FSX, X-Plane and Prepar3D.

Do I need rudder pedals to start?

Not to get flying. The sticks have a twist rudder and the yoke can be paired with pedals later. What pedals add is differential toe braking, which is the part a twist rudder cannot do.

Can I add panels later?

Yes, and the range is designed for it. The yoke carries a built in USB hub, so panels connect through the yoke rather than needing a free port on your PC for each one.

What warranty do Logitech flight controls carry?

Logitech backs this range with a two year limited hardware warranty, alongside your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Warranty support is handled by our Australian team rather than through an overseas returns process.
