Description

Logitech G X56 Rhino HOTAS

The Logitech G X56 Rhino HOTAS is a military-style stick and twin throttle built for space sims, combat flight and VR. It sits at the top of the Logitech G HOTAS range, with 189 programmable controls across the two units.

Mini analogue sticks under each thumb add four more axes that double as buttons, which is what makes six-degrees-of-freedom flying practical in modern space sims. The twin throttles can be split for independent engine control.

A set of 4 springs lets you change how firmly the stick resists, and full-spectrum RGB lighting can be set in Logitech's software. It is plug and play on PC, so there are no drivers to install before you fly.

Key features

  • 189 programmable controls
  • Independent twin throttles
  • Thumb mini-sticks add 4 extra axes
  • Built for six-degrees-of-freedom space flight
  • 4 interchangeable springs for stick resistance
  • Full-spectrum RGB lighting
  • Plug and play, no drivers required
  • 2 m USB cables on each unit
  • Military-style stick and throttle
  • Suited to VR, space and combat sims

Six degrees of freedom

Space sims use pitch, roll and yaw plus movement backwards, forwards, up, down, left and right. The X56 handles that with purpose-built mini analogue sticks at the thumbs, giving four more axes that also work as buttons.

That puts strafing and precision manoeuvres under your thumbs instead of on the keyboard.

Twin throttles and 189 controls

The throttle is split, so you can run engines independently or lock them together. Between the stick and throttle there are 189 programmable controls for weapons, systems and camera.

The stick comes with a spring system of 4 springs with different resistance, so you can set a lighter or firmer feel.

Full-spectrum RGB lighting on both units is editable in Logitech's software, so the bases can match the rest of your setup.

Our expert take

"For space sims like Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous, the X56 is the Logitech HOTAS to choose. The thumb mini-sticks make six-degrees-of-freedom flying practical, and the split throttles suit twin-engine combat aircraft."

"It is a large two-piece set that needs desk space and 2 USB ports, and it is PC only. If you mainly fly civil aircraft, a yoke and throttle quadrant will feel more natural."
