Choosing between Simucube 2 and Simucube 3

The decision is less about power than about platform. Simucube 2 Pro and Simucube 3 Pro both deliver 25Nm, so if raw torque is the only question, the older base still answers it. What separates them is the sensor and the ecosystem: Simucube 2 Pro reads steering through a 22-bit absolute encoder, Simucube 3 moves to 23-bit, and the whole Simucube 3 range is built around the Link platform.

Simucube 3 Ultimate is the step that changes the driving rather than the connectivity. It runs a different motor type and produces 35Nm, which is more than most drivers will ever run at full scale but gives enormous headroom before the base starts clipping. Simucube warrants the 3 Ultimate for five years and the 3 Pro for two.

The Link platform

Link is Simucube’s answer to cable sprawl. The Link Hub centralises connections so pedals, wheels and accessories run through one point rather than a row of USB plugs behind the rig.

The Link Quick Release carries the wheel side of it, passing power and data across the release itself so a wheel can be wireless without a battery to remember. A control box ships with Simucube 3, which lets you change torque and damping mid-session rather than pausing to open software.

Pedals

The ActivePedal Pro is an active pedal, which means a motor drives the pedal rather than a spring resisting it. The practical effect is that the brake can push back: lockup, ABS pulsing and weight transfer arrive through your foot instead of only through the wheel. It is a different category of pedal to a load cell, and priced accordingly.

Wheels and quick releases

The Tahko GT-21 is Simucube’s own wireless wheel. If you are fitting a third-party rim instead, the Quick Release Wheel Side Kit supplies the half that mounts to the wheel, which is not included with the wheelbase itself. That catches people out, so check what you have before ordering.

Is Simucube 3 worth it over Simucube 2 Pro?

If you want the Link platform, yes. Both Pro models produce the same 25Nm, so the case for Simucube 3 Pro rests on the higher resolution sensor, the control box and the connectivity. If neither matters to you, Simucube 2 Pro remains a strong buy.

Do I need the Link Hub?

No. It tidies and centralises connections rather than enabling anything you cannot otherwise do. Riggers with several accessories tend to want one.

Does a Simucube wheelbase include a quick release?

The base ships with the pin side. The wheel side is a separate part, which is why the Quick Release Wheel Side Kit exists. Check before you order.

What does ActivePedal do that a load cell does not?

A load cell measures how hard you press. An active pedal also pushes back, so the pedal itself can communicate lockup and ABS.

Is it covered by warranty in Australia?

Yes. Stock is held locally, warranty is handled here, and your rights under Australian Consumer Law apply regardless.
