Description

MOZA Racing HBP handbrake

The MOZA HBP is a dedicated sim racing handbrake built around a non-contact 16-bit high-precision angle sensor. It reads how far you pull the lever rather than registering a simple on or off input, so easing the rear of the car into a corner and locking it outright are two different actions instead of the same button press.

The body is CNC machined from aerospace-grade aluminium and anodised. The lever mounts horizontally for rally and drift use or vertically for a road car layout, resistance is set by swapping the supplied springs, and the stop position adjusts to suit how far you want the lever to travel. It connects by USB straight to a PC, or over RJ11 to a compatible MOZA wheelbase.

MOZA HBP handbrake key features

Take a look at all the best included features

  • Non-contact 16-bit angle sensor, so the input is graduated rather than on or off
  • CNC machined aerospace-grade aluminium body, anodised
  • Resistance set mechanically by swapping the supplied springs
  • Adjustable stop position to set how far the lever travels
  • Horizontal mounting for rally and drift, vertical for a road car layout
  • USB-B direct to a Windows PC, or RJ11 to a compatible MOZA wheelbase
  • Configured in MOZA Pit House alongside the rest of your MOZA gear
  • M6 bolt pattern for aluminium profile rigs, with side mounting optional
  • 153 × 68.3 × 365.5 mm, 0.7 kg
  • 12-month manufacturer warranty with Australian support

Aerospace-grade aluminium body

The housing is CNC machined from aerospace-grade aluminium and anodised, which is the same construction MOZA uses across its wheel bases and rims. In practice that matters less for how it looks than for how it behaves under load: a handbrake gets yanked hard and repeatedly, and a metal body bolted to a rig does not flex or creep the way a moulded one can.

At 153 by 68.3 by 365.5 mm and 0.7 kg it is compact enough to sit beside a pedal set or alongside a shifter without crowding either.

A 16-bit sensor, not a switch

The 16-bit non-contact angle sensor is what separates this from a switch. Sixteen bits of resolution across the lever travel means the game receives a progressive value, so you can hold the rear axle at a chosen slip angle through a long corner instead of snapping it loose and catching it again.

Non-contact sensing also means there is no wiper to wear against a track, so the output does not drift as the unit ages.

MOZA HBP handbrake - 16-bit angle sensor

Adjustable HBP handbrake angles for the perfect position

The lever mounts horizontal or vertical. Horizontal is the rally and drift layout, where the handbrake is pulled across the body and used constantly. Vertical suits a road car cockpit where the lever sits between the seat and the tunnel.

Both orientations use the same mounting hardware, so you can change your mind later without buying anything else.

Fine-tune HBP brake and stop positions

Resistance is mechanical, not a software curve. The HBP ships with springs you swap to change how hard the lever is to pull, plus a damper and spacers to change how it returns. The stop position is adjustable separately, which sets how far the lever moves before it bottoms out.

Setting it up is worth the time. A handbrake tuned too light gets pulled past the point you wanted and a heavy one makes smooth inputs hard, and the right setting depends as much on your seating position as on the car you are driving.

Direct PC or wheelbase connection

Two connection options. USB-B straight to a Windows PC treats the HBP as its own device, which works regardless of what wheel base you run. RJ11 into a compatible MOZA wheelbase routes it through the base instead, so it arrives in MOZA Pit House alongside your other MOZA gear and is configured from the same place.

Both cables are supplied in the box.

Mounting the HBP handbrake

The HBP bolts to aluminium profile rigs through an M6 bolt pattern, and side mounting is an option if you would rather hang it off the side of a chassis rail than sit it on a flat surface.

If you are running a wheel stand or a desk rather than a full cockpit, MOZA sells a universal mounting plate separately. Worth sorting that out before the handbrake arrives, because a handbrake that moves when you pull it is worse than no handbrake at all.

MOZA HBP handbrake - easy to mount

Our take

“A handbrake is the one input most people leave until last and then wish they had bought first. If you drive rally or drift, a progressive pull changes what you can actually do with the car in a way more torque never will. Spend the half hour swapping springs and setting the stop position when it arrives, because out of the box it will not be set up for you, and that is the difference between a handbrake you use and one you forget is there.”

Frequently asked questions

What makes the MOZA HBP handbrake stand out from other handbrakes?

It reads lever position through a non-contact 16-bit angle sensor rather than acting as a switch, so the input is progressive. The body is CNC machined from aerospace-grade aluminium, resistance is set by swapping springs, and the lever mounts horizontally or vertically.

How does the 16-bit high-precision sensor improve my performance?

Sixteen bits of resolution across the lever travel means the game receives a graduated value rather than an on or off signal. That is what lets you hold the rear of the car at a chosen angle through a corner instead of breaking traction and recovering it.

Can I adjust the handbrake’s resistance and feel?

Yes. Resistance is changed by swapping the supplied springs, the damper and spacers change how the lever returns, and the stop position sets how far it travels before bottoming out. All three are mechanical adjustments made on the unit itself.

Is the MOZA HBP handbrake compatible with my racing setup?

It connects by USB-B to a Windows PC, or over RJ11 to a compatible MOZA wheelbase so it is configured in MOZA Pit House with the rest of your gear. Both cables are in the box. Note that it is a PC device and is not compatible with PlayStation or Xbox.

How do I mount the MOZA HBP handbrake?

It bolts to aluminium profile rigs through an M6 bolt pattern, with side mounting as an option. The lever can be set horizontal or vertical. For a desk or wheel stand rather than a full cockpit, MOZA sells a universal mounting plate separately.

Can I adjust the angle of the MOZA HBP handbrake?

Yes, the MOZA HBP handbrake allows for multi-angle adjustability, enabling you to mount it horizontally or vertically. This ensures a natural, ergonomic setup that matches your racing preferences and reduces strain during long sessions.

What is the benefit of the adjustable stop position?

Adjusting the stop position allows you to control the exact point where the brake engages, giving you greater precision and responsiveness. This feature is essential for fine-tuning your handbrake’s performance to match specific racing needs.

Is the MOZA HBP handbrake durable?

The body is CNC machined from aerospace-grade aluminium and anodised, and the sensor is non-contact so it has no wearing surface. The parts that do wear are the springs and damper, and both are user-replaceable.

Does the MOZA HBP handbrake require regular maintenance?

Very little. The sensor is non-contact, so there is no wiper running against a track to wear out or drift over time. The mechanical parts are the springs and damper, which you may want to swap when changing how the lever feels rather than because anything has worn.

What kind of warranty comes with the MOZA HBP handbrake?

Twelve months against manufacturer defects, supported by Gamer Gear Direct’s Australian team. MOZA wheel bases carry 24 months; steering wheels, pedals, shifters and handbrakes carry 12.
