Best golf simulators for 2022

The best part about owning your own golf simulator setup is that you’ll never need to venture into a pro golf shop or your local club to jump in front of a golf simulator. You’ll be able to play on your own golf sim whenever you want.

And there has never been a better time to own your own golf simulator. Thanks to rapid advances in technology and increased competition in the space, what was once a $50,000 golf simulator can now be had for $10,000 or less.

Below you’ll find a selection of our best golf simulators for 2022, covering indoor and training golf simulator setups.

Best indoor golf simulator: Our SimSwing 12 is everything you need in a high-end, at-home golf simulator and a whole lot more! Featuring our premium 12 feet (or 3.65m) wide hitting bay. This hitting bay is designed and engineered in the US and includes a full steel frame, black nylon enclosure, impact screen and side netting. These hitting bays are made to the highest standard and include a 12 month limited warranty.

The SimSwing 12 bundle also includes your choice of launch monitor, an Optoma short throw projector and mount (floor or ceiling), hitting mat and our optional tech pack with gaming laptop and accessories.

On the software front, you’ve got The Golf Club 2019 included (SkyTrak version ONLY), plus the embedded game and skills software in your chosen launch monitor.

"Fantastic experience purchasing and playing via Gamer Gear Direct. Simulator, screen and net are all top quality and a heap of fun to play and practice on".

- Scott Nish: SkyTrak Simulator

This bundle includes everything you need for the very best golf simulator experience. If you want a high-end set-up, with the ability to play on thousands of courses from around the world.

Best golf simulator for practice: The SkyTrak Practice Bundle is your best option if you’re looking for a pure practice and training set-up rather than a full-blown golf simulator. You can easily use this set-up alongside an iPad or add on our tech pack for a powerful gaming laptop and stand.

This bundle includes either the Net Return Pro Series V2 or Home Series V2 hitting net with the special design that returns your ball every time. Designed and engineered in the US, these nets are high quality and can take thousands of shots before you’ll see any wear.

Also included is the pro turf hitting mat. Measuring in at 3m x 1.8m it’s one of the larger golf mats you’ll find and provides you with a large hitting area and functions as a soft landing for your golf balls.

And of course, this set-up comes with the famous SkyTrak launch monitor (Flightscope Mevo+ launch monitor option available, too).

If you want to take your golf game to the next level, perfect your swing and lower your handicap, this is the package for you.

Our training packages can be set-up either indoors or outdoors if you prefer. Although we highlight recommend you don’t leave your net, mat and launch monitor exposed to the elements. Thankfully you get a handy storage bag for the net so you can easily pack everything away when you’re finished.

A home golf simulator is easily one of the best ways to improve your swing, lower your handicap and have a TON of fun

Let’s face it. It’s not always possible to get down to your local golf course or driving range. So, setting up a golf simulator at home is a great way to practice your swing, play on simulated golf courses and potentially reduce your handicap.

In fact, there are a handful of reasons why owning a golf simulator isn’t just a luxury but a practical tool you can use to increase your skill level.

Gives you accurate data & feedback: With the use of a launch monitor, our golf simulators instantly calculate shot results, giving you a wide range of valuable data that you can use to make improvements on your broader golf game. For example, you can drill down to information like: carry distance, back spin, clubhead speed, side spin, total distance, flightpath, and much more.

Play day or night 24/7: A golf simulator installed at home means you can practice or play on your favourite courses whenever you like, no matter the time of day of the weather outside. This is really useful if you want to hit a few balls after work or invite a few friends over to play a few rounds on the weekend.

Play on your favourite courses from around the world: Thanks to the golf simulator software included with our golf simulators, you can play on thousands of courses in stunning 4K graphics, providing an immersive golf experience. Software such as The Golf Club 2019 (TGC2019) allows you to play on as many as 170,000 courses in jaw-dropping, realistic graphics. Some simulation software even allows you to create and design your own courses.

Bag mapping: This technology allows you to plan out your golf bag and learn how far you hit with each club, helping you remove any guesswork out on the golf course.

Skills assessments: Most simulators include skills assessment challenges. These skill challenges make it easy for you to fine tune and tweak specific parts of your golf game. For example, Flightscope offers the FS Skills App that includes the ability to build customized challenges. You design the size of the target, the distance you want to hit and how many points each target is worth. When you have completed your challenge, you can compare your results with other players and PGA Tour Players.

Types of golf simulators

There are three main types of launch monitors used in golf simulators. Each have their own pros and cons. We’ll go through all this information below. The idea here is to give you the broad strokes on why one type of launch monitor might be best for your specific home golf simulator.

Photometric: First up is photometric based golf simulators. Launch monitors that use photometric technology include SkyTrak and Foresight Sports GC3. These are camera-based systems that take thousands of high-speed images of the ball immediately after impact. Ball flight data such as ball speed, launch angle, back spin, side spin and side angle is analyzed, with shot shape and distance rendered on screen. All this unfolds within milliseconds and in real-time.

Photometric based golf simulators can be used both indoors and outdoors, giving you additional flexibility. One drawback to this type of golf simulator is that photometric systems typically do not capture club data like club path, face angle, attack angle and swing direction, etc.

Doppler radar: Doppler golf simulators, such as those that use the Flightscope Mevo+ launch monitor feature doppler radar technology for tracking.

Doppler radar is a well-known and common form of object tracking used in industries as wide and vast as aviation and weather systems. In a doppler system, a microwave signal is beamed from the unit. This signal is then ‘interrupted’ by the movement of the golf ball after impact. This causes energy to reflect toward the unit and this forms the basis of the ball flight data.

flightscope mevo+ launch monitor and golf simulator
Doppler systems tend to work best outdoors. This is because the microwave signal emitted from the unit needs a clear path to the ball. But as long as you have enough space behind and in front of you, doppler radar launch monitors are also effective for indoor golf simulators.

Infrared: The third and final type of launch monitor used in golf simulators is infrared. Brands such as Optishot utilise this technology. Infrared launch monitors emit a light signal to capture the position of your clubhead through the swing.

In general, infrared systems are not as reliable at tracking balls as photometric or radar-based golf simulators.

Thanks to the launch monitors included with our golf simulators, you can access some of the best golf simulation software around and play on just about any course from round the world in stunning 4K graphics.

The Golf Club 2019 (TGC 2019) hands you the ability to play on more than 170,000 courses. No need to rub your eyes clean – you read that right. 170,000 courses! Other software, like E6 Connect gives you more than 100 courses.

Both the Flightscope Mevo+ and SkyTrak launch monitors are compatible with TGC2019. You simply buy a subscription, hook up your launch monitor and you can then hit a few rounds on just about any course you like from around the globe.

By this point, you might be wondering at this point…

"How much space do I need for a golf simulator"?

Out of all the questions we get on a daily basis around our golf simulation products, those related to space requirements are the most common. It’s easy to see why. You want to make sure that the room you’re eyeing off for a golf simulator install will be big enough.

golf simulator set-up with skytrak game improvement plan
Space requirements often vary from person to person because the room you’ll need depends on your height and swing and the golf simulator equipment you’d like to set-up (golf enclosure, mat, projector etc.).

So, there’s no straight up answer as it really depends on your final set-up. However, with our vast experience in the golf simulation space, we’ve found there are minimum space requirements for most golf simulators.

To ensure you get the best experience, you’ll need a space with these minimum dimensions:

3.60m Width

5.50m Depth

2.70m Height

The critical measurement here is height. You need to make sure you can swing your club comfortably. In some cases, you may need more than the recommended 2.7m height to do this. This is why we always recommend you install your golf simulator in an area that meets the minimum dimensions listed above or in any area larger than those dimensions such as a garage, large theatre space or covered outdoor area that’s not affected by the elements.

Your golf simulator purchase is backed by a 12 month warranty and lifetime tech support

Plus, you also receive lifetime tech support. Our team of simulation experts are on standby to help you with any question, query or problem you have.
