Description

A genuine dry carbon shell

This is the real thing. A motorsport grade dry carbon fibre shell in the TR Series GT profile, not a carbon texture applied over fibreglass. The weave you can see is the material the seat is made from.

Dry carbon is stiffer and lighter than fibreglass for the same shell, which is why race teams use it and why it costs what it does. It carries the same 200kg rating as the fibreglass TR Series shells. It fits the tube frame cockpits including the RS6, TR8 Pro, TRX, Porsche 91XTR and Carbon Fibre TRX, and the aluminium profile range covering the TR200, TRA, TR160, TR120, TR80S, TR40S and TRK.

Key features

  • Genuine motorsport grade dry carbon fibre shell
  • GT style fixed back bucket
  • Rated to 200kg
  • Suits waists 42 to 46 inches
  • Breathable, washable, fire retardant trim
  • High density foam
  • Side mount, M8 at 29.5mm spacing
  • Slotted for 4, 5 and 6 point harnesses

Dry carbon versus a carbon look finish

A hydro dipped carbon texture is paint. Dry carbon is woven carbon fibre cured under vacuum with minimal resin, which is what makes it both lighter and stiffer than the fibreglass equivalent. Several seats in this range wear a carbon appearance. This one is carbon.

The practical difference in a sim is less about lap time and more about how the shell behaves under load and how it feels to own. If you want the look at a fibreglass price, the GT Pro carbon look seat is honest about being exactly that.

Same family, different material

The TR Series GT geometry is shared across the family. The pearlescent version and the grey version are fibreglass shells in the same profile with the same 200kg rating.

So the choice within the family is material and finish rather than fit. If a fibreglass shell suits you and the budget is better spent on a wheelbase, that is a perfectly sensible call. If you want the carbon, this is it.

Mounting and harness

Side mount on M8 fixings at 29.5mm spacing, the same standard as the rest of the range, so any bracket that takes a TR Series shell takes this one. The shell is slotted for 4, 5 and 6 point harnesses.

The bucket seat brackets are the direct match. If you are fitting a harness at the same time, plan where the belts anchor on the frame before you set the seat height, because moving the seat afterwards changes the belt angles.

Our expert take

"Carbon on a sim seat is a want rather than a need, and I would always tell someone to spend the difference on a better wheelbase first. That said, if the rest of the rig is already sorted, a dry carbon shell is the one cosmetic upgrade that is also a real material upgrade rather than a finish pretending to be one."
