One shifter, two gearboxes, both plates in the box
Most sim racers end up wanting two shifters. An H-pattern for the classics, the road cars and anything with a clutch pedal that matters, and a sequential for the GT and touring car grids where a bang up the gate is the whole interaction.
This is both, in one all aluminium unit. The sequential plate and the seven gear H-pattern plate are both supplied, along with a knob for each mode. Our sim racing shifters range covers the alternatives if you only need one of the two.

How the two modes work
The gate plate on top is what defines the gearbox. Fit the sequential plate and the lever runs in a single slot, forward and back. Fit the H-pattern plate and it travels across a seven position gate, six forward gears plus reverse.
A switch selects the matching mode in the electronics so the shifter reports the right inputs. The two knobs are there for the same reason: the spherical knob suits the H-pattern, where your palm is rolling across a gate, and the cylindrical knob suits the sequential pull.
Tension, and why you adjust it
Each mode has its own tension adjustment, turned clockwise for more force. The two want different settings. A sequential shift wants to be firm, because the satisfaction is in the resistance breaking over centre.
An H-pattern wants to be lighter, because you are moving across a gate rather than through a detent and too much weight turns a quick two to three into a fight. There is also a Y axis screw for anyone whose mount flexes enough to let the lever wobble.
Construction and connection
All aluminium, and the full metal construction is what gives it the mechanical feel. A shifter with plastic in the gate gives you a vague change, because the plastic deflects a fraction before the detent engages and your hand reads that as slop.
The board is inside the shifter, so it connects straight to the PC with the supplied USB cable and there is no separate box to find room for. A mode switch handles firmware updates.
Mounting hardware is not included
VNM are explicit about this and so are we: mounting clamps and mounting bolts are both bought separately. Table clamps are available if you are mounting to a desk, and a rig mount needs the appropriate bolts for your profile.
If you are building out the left hand side of the cockpit, the VNM Handbrake V1.5 is the usual companion, and the Shifter and Handbrake bundle puts them together.
Changing the gate later
The H-pattern plate supplied is the 6R, meaning six forward gears and reverse. That covers the overwhelming majority of cars you will drive, but not all of them.
Optional plates change the layout: the 5R plate for five speed cars where you want reverse where reverse belongs, and the 7R plate for seven speed gearboxes. They swap onto the same shifter.

Frequently asked questions
Do I get both gate plates, or do I choose one?
Both. The sequential V2 plate and the 7-gear H-pattern plate are supplied together, along with a knob for each mode.
Is switching between modes tool free?
No. The gate plate is physically swapped and the hex wrenches for the job are in the box, so it is a quick bench change rather than something you would do between races.
Are mounting clamps included?
No. Mounting clamps and mounting bolts are both bought separately, which is worth ordering at the same time so you can mount it the day it arrives.
Which H-pattern plate comes as standard?
The 6R, which is six forward gears plus reverse. The 5R and 7R plates are available separately if you want a different layout.
