Five forward gears and reverse, for the older cars
A great deal of the most rewarding sim racing happens in cars that never had a sixth gear. Group A and Group B rally, historic touring cars, the road cars of the eighties and nineties, and most of the karting and club machinery in between.
The 5R gate matches them. Five forward gears plus reverse, with no seventh position sitting there unused. It fits the VNM Dual-Mode Shifter in place of the standard plate.

Why a narrower gate is better for old cars
On a six speed gate driving a five speed car, the top right position is dead. That sounds harmless until a fast change under pressure puts your hand somewhere the car has no gear, and you have lost a second finding out.
A five speed gate makes the mechanical layout match the car. Fifth sits where fifth should, reverse sits beyond it, and every position on the plate does something. Muscle memory has one less exception to learn.
Running more than one plate
Swapping plates takes a few minutes on the bench with the hex wrenches that came with the shifter, so a driver who moves between historic and modern grids can keep both and change with the season.
The 6R plate is the standard six speed gate, and the 7R plate covers seven speed gearboxes. Our VNM Simulation range carries the full set.

Does it fit shifters other than the VNM?
No. It is made for the VNM shifter only.
Do I need this if I already have the shifter?
Only if you want a five speed layout. The shifter ships with the 6R plate as standard.
Can I go back to the six speed plate later?
Yes. The plates are interchangeable and swapping takes a few minutes with the supplied hex wrenches.
