Seven speed manual gearboxes are rarer than six speeds but they are not exotic, and a handful of modern road cars and prototypes in the major sim titles use them. Driving one on a six speed gate means the top ratio has nowhere to live.
The 7R gate adds the position. Seven forward gears plus reverse, on a plate that swaps onto the VNM Dual-Mode Shifter in place of the standard one.

The case for mapping every gear
You can always map a seventh gear to a button, and plenty of drivers do. It works, and it never quite stops feeling like a workaround, because the one gear that lives somewhere different is the one you reach for under pressure.
A seven position gate puts every ratio in the same place your hand is already going. The translation disappears, which is the entire reason for owning an H-pattern shifter rather than paddles in the first place.
Where it sits in the range
This is the widest of the three gates, so it also has the tightest spacing between positions. Worth a few laps of adjustment when you fit it, because a change that was comfortably wide on a six speed gate is now a slightly more precise movement.
The 6R plate is the standard gate and the 5R plate covers historic machinery. Our sim racing shifters range carries the shifters they fit.

Seven forward gears plus reverse, following VNM's naming where the number is the count of forward gears.
Does it fit shifters other than the VNM?
No. It is made for the VNM shifter only.
Is the spacing tighter than the 6R?
Yes. More positions in the same plate means less room between them, so expect a short adjustment period when you first fit it.
Can I swap back to the standard plate?
Yes. All three plates are interchangeable on the same shifter.
