The 6R is the gate that ships with the VNM shifter, and it is the one most people leave fitted. Six forward gears plus a dedicated reverse covers modern road cars, most GT machinery and the overwhelming majority of what a sim racing calendar puts in front of you.
Buy a second one if you want a spare, or if a plate has picked up wear from a few thousand aggressive changes. It fits the VNM Dual-Mode Shifter and nothing else.

What a 6R gate gives you
Seven positions in total: first through sixth in the usual double H arrangement, and reverse on its own. Because reverse has a gate position rather than sharing one with a forward gear, there is no lockout collar to fight and no chance of finding it by accident.
That matters more in sim racing than it sounds. A rolling start where you fumble into reverse instead of first is a session gone, and a dedicated gate makes it a mechanical impossibility.
When you would choose a different plate
If most of your driving is in older machinery with five speed gearboxes, the 5R plate puts reverse where those cars put it and removes a gate you never use.
If you are driving seven speed cars and want every ratio mapped to its real position, the 7R plate is the one. All three swap onto the same shifter, so owning more than one is a sensible way to run the collection. Our sim racing shifters range covers the hardware.

No. It is made for the VNM shifter and will not fit another manufacturer's unit.
Is this already included with the shifter?
Yes, the 6R is the H-pattern plate supplied as standard. Buy this if you want a spare or a replacement.

Can I swap between plates easily?
Yes. The plates are interchangeable on the same shifter and the hex wrenches supplied with the shifter are the only tools needed.
