Description

The TR80S footwell, solved

The heel plate cut for the TR80S cockpit. Same idea as its smaller sibling and the same reasoning: your heel needs a fixed surface to pivot on, and the floor under a sim rig is rarely it.

The TR80S is a larger frame than the TR40S, which means a wider footwell and a longer plate. This one measures 574mm against the TR40S plate's 494mm, and at 60mm wide it tapers to 55mm at the far end. The two are not interchangeable.

Key features

  • Cut specifically for the TR80S
  • 574mm long, 60mm wide
  • 80mm longer than the TR40S plate
  • Adjustable positioning
  • Suits load cell and hydraulic pedals
  • Not interchangeable with the TR40S plate

Left foot braking and the heel plate

Drivers who brake with their left foot benefit from a heel plate more than anyone, because the left foot has no other job to anchor it. On a conventional right foot setup your heel travels between throttle and brake and finds its own position. Left foot braking asks it to stay put.

A plate gives it somewhere definite to stay. It is also the thing that stops your foot sliding off the side of the pedal under a hard stop.

Cockpit specific for a reason

Footwell geometry differs between the TR80S and the TR40S, so each has its own plate. This one is 574mm long; the TR40S version is 494mm. Eighty millimetres is not a tolerance you can work around, which is why ordering the wrong one is the most common mistake with this part.

For the smaller frame, the TR40S heel plate is the one you want. For the TR200, TR160 and TR120, the heel rest supplied with the profile pedal mount system does the same job.

Pairing it with a footrest

A heel plate anchors your braking foot. A footrest gives your other foot somewhere to go, which matters in anything with an automatic gearbox where the left foot is otherwise idle.

The universal footrest covers that, and the rest of our racing simulator accessories range has the pedal mounting hardware that goes with both.

Our expert take

"The two heel plates look the same in a thumbnail and they are not the same part. Read the cockpit name twice before you order. Beyond that it is a straightforward upgrade that quietly improves how repeatable your braking is."

Frequently asked questions

Which cockpit does this fit?

The Trak Racer TR80S. The TR40S takes a different plate, listed separately.

Can I use the TR40S plate instead?

No. The TR40S plate is 494mm long against this one's 574mm, an 80mm difference that reflects the narrower footwell. They are not interchangeable.

Is it adjustable?

Yes. Position it with the seat set and your foot where it naturally rests.

Do I still need a footrest?

They do different jobs. The heel plate anchors your braking foot; a footrest gives your other foot somewhere to sit.
