Somewhere for your left foot

In a car with an automatic gearbox your left foot has nothing to do, and in a sim it usually ends up somewhere uncomfortable. A dead pedal solves that in a real car. This is the sim equivalent: an adjustable left footrest that mounts to extrusion or to a pedal plate.

It is not just about comfort. Bracing your left foot against a fixed surface stabilises your whole lower body, which is what stops you sliding forward in the seat under heavy braking.

Key features

  • Left foot rest
  • Adjustable positioning
  • Mounts to extrusion or a pedal plate
  • Screws, nuts and T-nuts supplied
  • Universal fitment
  • Braces the body under braking

The dead pedal principle

Every performance car has a footrest to the left of the clutch, and it is not there for comfort. It gives the driver something to brace against so their body stays planted through corners instead of being held in place by the steering wheel.

The same applies in a sim, and arguably more so, because a sim seat has no lateral load to hold you in place. Bracing with your left foot lets your arms concentrate on steering rather than on holding you still.

Mounting options

It fits either to aluminium extrusion or directly to a pedal plate, which covers most rigs regardless of how the pedals are mounted. All the screws, nuts and T-nuts are supplied.

If you are running an inverted pedal setup, a footrest matters more than usual, because inverted mounting leaves the floor beneath the pedals completely clear. The universal inverted pedal system includes one, and the inverted pedal mount does not.

Setting the position

Set it so your left leg is comfortably bent rather than extended, with your foot flat against the surface. If your leg is straight you cannot brace, and if it is too bent your knee ends up in the way of the wheel.

Adjust it after the seat and the pedals are set, since both change where your foot naturally falls. Our racing simulator accessories range covers the pedal mounting hardware it works alongside.

Our expert take

"The left foot is the forgotten part of a sim rig. People spend a fortune on pedals and then leave the other foot resting on a chassis rail. A footrest is cheap, it makes long stints considerably more comfortable, and it genuinely helps you stay planted under braking."

What does it mount to?

Either aluminium extrusion or a pedal plate, which covers most cockpit arrangements.

Is it adjustable?

Yes. Set it so your left leg is comfortably bent with your foot flat against the surface, once the seat and pedals are already positioned.
