The standard M8 fixing on an aluminium rig is 20mm long, and it works until you put something thicker in the joint. Add a plate, stack two brackets, or fit a spacer, and 20mm no longer reaches far enough into the T-nut to hold properly.

The rule is simple. Measure the total thickness of everything the screw passes through, then add enough length for full thread engagement in the nut. If the screw bottoms out before the joint is tight, it is too long. If it engages only a couple of threads, it is too short and the joint will fail.
Going up in 5mm steps is usually enough to solve it. If 25mm still does not reach, the M8 x 30mm hardened set is the next size, and the 5mm spacer kit covers the opposite problem of a part that needs lifting clear. All three lengths are stocked in our racing simulator accessories range.
