One shell, two driving positions
Most drivers eventually want two seats. A low, laid back shell for open wheelers, and something more upright for GT and touring cars. The HSX is Trak Racer's answer to that: a single fixed shell whose geometry supports a low Formula position and a more upright GT position without changing the seat.
The shell is ultra-rigid fibreglass, finished in black, with leather-style cushions double stitched in high-strength nylon thread. It was developed with Alpine F1 engineers, which is where the ergonomics come from rather than the finish.
Key features
- Ultra-rigid fibreglass shell
- Black finish, leather-style cushions
- Fixed-back hybrid Formula and GT shell
- Side-mount compatible
- Recommended waist 28 to 44 inches
- Slotted for 4, 5 and 6 point harnesses
- 1090mm tall, 570mm wide, 592mm deep
- Choose seat only or seat with brackets
This is the black one, not the Alpine livery
Worth being clear about, because the two are easy to confuse. This seat was developed with Alpine F1 engineers, and that is an engineering collaboration rather than a paint job. The finish is black. There is no Alpine livery, no team colours and no Alpine badging on it.
If you want the livery, that is a different product. The BWT Alpine F1 Edition is the same shell and the same hybrid geometry, finished in official BWT Alpine Formula One Team colours with blue and black cushions. Same seat underneath, different look.
What hybrid means on a fixed shell
There is no recline mechanism here. The shell is fixed, and the hybrid part is the geometry: it is shaped to work at a low Formula angle and at a more upright GT angle, so the mounting position decides which one you get rather than a lever.
That is the trade against an adjustable seat. You lose on-the-fly changes, and you gain the rigidity that comes from a shell with no hinge in it. Under a high torque direct drive base and a load cell brake, that stiffness is what stops the seat moving when you do.
Fibreglass, and why that matters
The shell is fibreglass, not carbon fibre. It is the same material Trak Racer use across the HSX range, and it is genuinely rigid rather than a cost saving that shows up under braking. The coatings are wear resistant, UV resistant and easy to clean, which matters more than it sounds if the rig lives in a bright room or gets used by more than one person.
If you want a carbon shell, the HCF Hybrid Formula seat uses genuine motorsport-grade carbon fibre and takes a slightly wider waist range. Our racing simulator seats pages cover the rest of the range.
Mounting it, and what fits
The seat is side-mount compatible, which is the standard arrangement on a sim rig: brackets bolt to the sides of the shell and then to the frame. Choose the seat with brackets option if you do not already have a set. Seat sliders are a separate purchase either way. The shell is also slotted for 4, 5 and 6 point harnesses, with the two back slots set 172mm apart.
It fits Trak Racer tube frames including the RS6, TR8 Pro, TRX, Porsche 91XTR and Carbon Fibre TRX, and extrusion frames including the TR200, TRA, TR160, TR120, TR80S, TR40S and TRK. Other brands of cockpit are also covered. Motion is supported on D-BOX, Sigma Integrale and Qubic systems, subject to how your cockpit and platform are configured. Our aluminium chassis rigs pages set out which of our frames are extruded profile.
Simulation use only
This seat is designed for simulation use and is not intended for real-world motorsport. It carries no FIA homologation and no motorsport safety certification, so it should not be fitted to a road or race car.
That is normal for a sim seat and it is not a criticism of the build. It simply means the shell is engineered for rigidity and comfort at a desk rather than for impact performance on a circuit. Our racing simulator accessories range covers the harnesses, sliders and mounts that go around it.
Our expert take
"The hybrid shells are the ones I point people at when they cannot decide what they race. A dedicated formula seat is miserable in a GT car and an upright GT seat feels wrong in an open wheeler, and most people drive both. This gets you a workable compromise in one shell, and it is rigid enough that you are not paying for that compromise anywhere else."

Frequently asked questions
Does this seat have the Alpine livery?
No. This is the black version. It was developed with Alpine F1 engineers, which is an engineering collaboration rather than a finish, and it carries no Alpine colours or badging. The BWT Alpine F1 Edition is a separate product with the official team livery.
Is the shell carbon fibre?
No. The shell is ultra-rigid fibreglass with a black finish. The HCF Hybrid Formula seat is the genuine carbon fibre option in the range.
Does the seat recline?
No. It is a fixed-back shell. The hybrid design means the shell geometry supports both a low Formula position and a more upright GT position, set by how it is mounted.
What size driver does it suit?
A waist of 28 to 44 inches.
Can I fit a harness?
Yes. The shell is slotted for 4, 5 and 6 point harnesses. The two back harness slots sit 172mm apart.
What are the seat dimensions?
1090mm tall, 570mm wide and 592mm deep overall, with an 841mm backrest and a 435mm wide base. The internal width across the shoulders is 320mm, and the seat weighs 17kg.
Are brackets and sliders included?
Brackets depend on the option you choose, as the seat is available on its own or with brackets. Seat sliders are a separate purchase in both cases.
Can I use it in a real car?
No. This seat is designed for simulation use only. It carries no FIA homologation or motorsport safety certification and is not intended for real-world motorsport.
