Description

MOZA R5 Pro Racing Bundle

The MOZA R5 Pro Racing Bundle is a complete direct drive sim racing setup in one box: the R5 Pro wheelbase, the ES Lite steering wheel, the SRP Lite2 pedals and a table clamp.

It is built to run from a desk, so you do not need a cockpit to get started, and it sits on the same MOZA Racing platform as the rest of the range, which means the wheel, the pedals and the base can all be changed later without replacing the lot.

The R5 Pro is a PC setup. It runs on Windows and does not support PlayStation or Xbox.

Key features

  • 6Nm of direct drive torque
  • 21-bit magnetic encoder
  • 600MHz processor running NexGen Force Feedback 5.0
  • 1000Hz USB refresh rate
  • Aluminium alloy housing, 2.9kg
  • ES Lite wheel: 280mm, 22 inputs, 10 RGB shift lights
  • SRP Lite2 pedals with contactless Hall sensors
  • 15mm lateral and 36mm height pedal adjustment
  • Table clamp included, plus bottom and front rig mounting
  • Ports for pedals, dash, shifter, handbrake and e-stop

Six newton metres of direct drive torque

The R5 Pro motor is rated at 6Nm with 100W of peak power. In a direct drive base the motor turns the shaft the wheel is bolted to, so what the tyres are doing reaches your hands without passing through gears or a belt first.

Six newton metres is enough to feel the front tyres go light before they let go, and enough to catch the car when they do. It is also a sensible amount of force on a desk, which matters when the clamp is the only thing holding the base down.

The 21-bit encoder

The encoder is how the base reads where the wheel actually is. The R5 Pro uses a 21-bit magnetic encoder, where the original R5 used a 15-bit one, so it resolves steering position far more finely and can build force feedback from better information.

Paired with the 600MHz processor and NexGen Force Feedback 5.0, that shows up as texture: kerb edges, a surface change, the moment the rear starts to rotate. The base reports to the PC at 1000Hz.

The ES Lite steering wheel

The bundle ships with the ES Lite: a 280mm D shape with an aluminium alloy frame and aluminium alloy shift paddles. The grip is TPE rather than leather, which is worth knowing if you are comparing it against the wheel in the older R5 bundle.

There are 22 programmable inputs and ten top-mounted RGB LEDs for shift timing, both configurable in MOZA Pit House. It mounts with an all-aluminium quick release, so any other MOZA rim goes on in its place.

The SRP Lite2 pedals

The SRP Lite2 set has steel pedal faces on a steel base and uses contactless Hall sensors, so there is no wiper to wear against. Pedal spacing adjusts 15mm sideways and 36mm in height, which is the difference between a pedal set you tolerate and one that suits your legs.

Pedal curves are adjustable and the output can be watched live in Pit House while you set them. This is a two-pedal set, throttle and brake. A clutch pedal is sold separately, and the MOZA CRP2 load cell pedals are the step up when you want a brake you push against pressure rather than travel.

Desk, rig, and what you can add later

The table clamp is in the box, and the base also takes bottom, front and desktop mounting, so moving it onto a rig later is a matter of bolts rather than a new base.

The back of the wheelbase carries ports for pedals, a dash, a shifter, a handbrake and an e-stop. That is the upgrade path: you add the part you want next and it plugs into the base you already own. The wider range sits in our direct drive wheelbases collection.

R5 or R5 Pro

This is the question we get most. Against the original MOZA R5 bundle, the R5 Pro raises torque from 5.5Nm to 6Nm, moves the encoder from 15-bit to 21-bit, adds the 600MHz processor and NexGen 5.0, and swaps the pedals for the SRP Lite2 set.

The encoder is the change you actually feel; the torque difference is small. If you are choosing between them, pick the Pro for the feedback detail, not for the extra half a newton metre. If you already know you want more force than either will give you, the MOZA R9 V3 is the base to look at instead.

Our take

“If you are coming to direct drive for the first time and you do not want to overspend, this is where I would start you. Six newton metres is not a lot of torque next to the bigger MOZA bases, and anyone who has already driven a stronger one will notice that straight away. What you get instead is the same encoder and the same force feedback algorithm as bases costing a good deal more, in something that clamps to a desk. At this price that is the trade I would make.”

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the MOZA R5 and the R5 Pro?

The R5 Pro raises torque from 5.5Nm to 6Nm, moves from a 15-bit encoder to a 21-bit one, adds a 600MHz processor and NexGen Force Feedback 5.0, and replaces the pedals with the SRP Lite2 set. The encoder is the upgrade you notice most.

Does the MOZA R5 Pro work on Xbox or PlayStation?

No. The R5 Pro is a PC setup and runs on Windows only. It does not support Xbox or PlayStation. If you need console support, call us and we will point you at the right MOZA setup for your platform.

Do I need a sim racing cockpit to use it?

No. A table clamp is included so the base can run from a desk. The wheelbase also supports bottom, front and desktop mounting, so it can move onto a rig or wheel stand later.

Does the bundle include a clutch pedal?

No. The SRP Lite2 set in this bundle is two pedals, throttle and brake. A clutch pedal is available separately if you want a three pedal setup.

Can I upgrade the wheel or the pedals later?

Yes. The wheel comes off on an all-aluminium quick release and any MOZA rim fits in its place. The pedal port takes other MOZA sets, including the MOZA SRP2 pedals. There are also ports for a dash, shifter, handbrake and e-stop.

What warranty does the MOZA R5 Pro bundle come with?

MOZA covers the wheelbase for 24 months and the steering wheel and pedals for 12 months, against manufacturing defects. We look after warranty claims for you as the Australian dealer, and your rights under Australian Consumer Law apply on top of the manufacturer warranty.
