Description

A complete cockpit, seat included

The TR5 is the one that arrives ready to use. A rigid carbon steel tube frame with a faux leather and micro suede seat already fitted, a shifter and handbrake mount included, and a footprint small enough to live in a normal room.

It is also the most adjustable cockpit in this batch on paper, with published ranges rather than descriptions: 85 to 145 degrees of backrest recline, a pedal plate that moves through 580 to 600mm and tilts from plus 18 to minus 56 degrees, and a wheel deck with 100mm of horizontal travel.

Trak Racer TR5 racing simulator cockpit with seat

Key features

  • Seat included, faux leather and micro suede
  • Rigid carbon steel tube frame
  • Handles direct drive up to 25Nm
  • Backrest reclines 85 to 145 degrees
  • Shifter and handbrake mount included
  • Fits drivers from 140cm to 200cm

Upright or reclined, in the same frame

The backrest swings through 85 to 145 degrees, which is a genuinely wide range: upright enough for a rally or truck sim, reclined enough for a single seater. That range is what the TR5's hybrid driving positions means in practice, and it is the reason the overall length changes from 1405mm to 1530mm depending on how you have it set.

The pedal plate moves with you. Distance runs 580 to 600mm and the angle sweeps from plus 18 to minus 56 degrees on a single plate, so the pedals follow the seat rather than fighting it.

What it takes, and where the limit is

25Nm is the maximum wheelbase torque for this frame, and the steel tubing has been fatigue tested at a 150kg static load over 16,000 cycles. That covers direct drive bases from Logitech, Fanatec, Thrustmaster, Moza, Simagic, Simucube and Trak Racer's own, on PC, Xbox or PlayStation.

If you are running something above 25Nm, look at an aluminium profile cockpit instead. The TR200 TANK sits at the other end of that scale with no stated torque limit at all.

TR5 wheel deck and direct drive mount

It flies as well as it races

Trak Racer designed the TR5 for racing and flight alike, and the side arms are the reason. The TR5 dual flight sim mounts attach directly to them and carry a stick and a throttle, or a yoke and a quadrant, in a rigid position.

The frame also carries expansion mounts for a speaker, headphones, a drink holder, caster wheels and a bass shaker. A monitor stand and a keyboard tray are separate, and our sim racing monitor stands range covers the screens up to quad setups. Our racing simulator seats pages cover the upgrade path if you ever want to change the seat that comes with it.

Our expert take

"The seat being included changes the maths on this one more than people expect. By the time you buy a frame and then a decent seat and then the brackets to join them, you are past what the TR5 costs complete. If you are inside the 25nm ceiling, this is the least fuss you can have and still be sitting in something properly rigid."
