Description

A corner that does not have to be square

Every other connector in an aluminium profile system holds two rails at ninety degrees. This one does not. The Trak Racer Flexible Pivot Joint is a hinged connector for 40x40mm profile that opens through a full 180 degrees, so you can join two lengths of extrusion at whatever angle the build actually needs and then lock it there.

It is made from zinc alloy, is supplied as a single connector, and fits the 8mm slot used across the Trak Racer aluminium system. In practice it is the part you reach for when a monitor wing needs to angle inward, when a keyboard or button box tray needs to sit on a slope, or when a support brace has to run diagonally across a frame rather than square to it. It belongs in the same toolkit as the rest of the hardware mounts built around 8mm slot extrusion.

Trak Racer 40x40mm flexible pivot joint connector

Key features

  • 180 degrees of rotation
  • Zinc alloy construction
  • Suits 40x40mm profile
  • Fits 8mm slot extrusion
  • Locks at the chosen angle
  • Reversible, no drilling required

Where an angled joint solves the problem

Triple monitor setups are the obvious case, whether you are building your own or adapting one of our sim racing monitor stands. Getting side screens to toe in toward the driver without a purpose built stand usually means fabricating something, and a hinged joint removes that step. Set the angle by eye from the seat, then tighten.

The less obvious cases are braces and trays. A diagonal brace across the back of a tall monitor stand adds a lot of rigidity, but only if it can meet the uprights at whatever angle geometry dictates. Similarly, a button box tray angled toward the driver is far easier to read than one sitting flat.

Zinc alloy and why it matters here

A pivot is a wear point. Unlike a fixed corner bracket, the two halves move against each other while you set the angle, and the fastener has to hold that position under load once it is set. Zinc alloy gives the joint the density to clamp without deforming at the pivot.

Once locked, treat it like any other structural connection on the rig and check the tension after the first few sessions. Anything carrying a screen benefits from a retighten once the frame has settled.

Fitting it to the frame

The joint locates in the 8mm slot on 40x40mm profile, so it mounts the same way every other connector in the system does and can be repositioned or removed without leaving a mark. Nothing is drilled and nothing is permanent.

For square corners, the fixed 40mm corner bracket and cap set is the better choice and comes with its own screws and T-nuts. Use the pivot joint where the angle is genuinely not ninety degrees, and the fixed bracket everywhere else.

Our expert take

"This is a problem solver rather than a part you plan a build around. Most rigs never need one. The ones that do usually need it badly, because the alternative is cutting and drilling something to make an angle work. If you are trying to toe in a set of side monitors on a stand that was not designed for it, this is the part you have been looking for."

Frequently asked questions

What profile size does this fit?

It is designed for 40x40mm aluminium extrusion with an 8mm slot, which is the standard profile used across Trak Racer aluminium cockpits and monitor stands.

How far does it rotate?

Through a full 180 degrees, so it covers any angle from folded flat back on itself to straight.

Does it stay where I set it?

Yes. The joint clamps at the chosen angle. As with any structural fixing on a rig, check the tension after the first few sessions once the frame has settled.

How many connectors do I get?

One. Each listing is a single pivot joint connector, so order one per angled joint in the build. It locates in the 8mm slot and is secured with standard profile hardware, which we stock separately.
