Description

Trak Racer 330mm Open Flat-Bottom GT Sim Racing Wheel

The open flat-bottom version of Trak Racer's 330mm GT rim removes the base section entirely rather than simply flattening it. What you get is a wheel that is lighter at the bottom, opens the sightline to the pedals and dash, and puts nothing between your knees and the rig. It sits alongside the rest of the Trak Racer range.

The 330mm diameter is unchanged, and so is the construction. Aircraft-grade aluminium alloy runs through the core and spokes, which keeps the rim rigid under a strong direct drive base without adding rotating mass. Less inertia means the wheelbase spends more of its torque describing the road surface and less of it accelerating the rim.

The grip surface is the same moulded silicone Trak Racer uses across this rim family, textured for grip and finished so it can be driven without gloves.

Key features

  • 330mm (13 inch) diameter in an open flat-bottom profile
  • Cut-away base for a clear view of the pedals and dash
  • Lower rim mass than the closed flat-bottom version
  • Aircraft-grade aluminium alloy core and spokes
  • Moulded silicone grips with an anti-slip texture
  • Non-porous grip that resists sweat, dirt and bacteria
  • Standard 70mm PCD bolt pattern
  • Fits most button hubs and quick releases on the market

An open base that gives the cockpit back some room

Cutting the base out of a GT rim does two useful things. It removes mass from the part of the wheel furthest from the hub, which is where mass costs the most in rotational inertia, and it opens up the space between the rim and your legs.

In a tight cockpit, or in a formula seating position where your knees sit higher, that clearance is the difference between a comfortable session and one where you are constantly aware of the wheel. It also gives you an unobstructed line to a dash display or the pedal box. If your rig is one of the more compact aluminium chassis rigs, this is the profile to look at first.

One rim, most of the hubs on the market

The 70mm PCD bolt pattern is what makes this rim broadly useful rather than tied to one brand. Confirmed hubs include Fanatec Podium Button Module and ClubSport Universal Hub V2, MOZA CS Pro, CS V2P and RS V2, Simucube Valo and Tahko, Simagic GT Pro Hub and NEO X, Ascher Racing B16 and B24, Cube Controls GTPRO V1 and V2, Conspit H.AO, plus Pokornyi, SimCore, Sim Racing Bay, SimRacing Coach, Simsonn and HRS.

The Conspit H.AO and the Cube Controls GTPRO both need a button spacer to sit correctly, and Trak Racer supplies that spacer in the box rather than selling it separately. Browse the quick releases and button hubs we carry if you are still deciding how to mount it.

Wheelbase and button hub compatibility chart for the Trak Racer 330mm open GT rim

Our expert take

"The open flat-bottom is the one we would point most GT drivers toward over the closed version. You lose nothing you actually use, because almost nobody grips the bottom of a GT wheel, and you gain knee room and a clear view of the pedals."

"The honest caveat is that an open base makes hand-over-hand steering awkward if you ever drive something that needs it, like a rally stage or a drift session. If your driving is all GT and open wheeler, that will never come up. If you switch between disciplines on the same rig, the round rim in this family is the more flexible choice."

Frequently asked questions

Is a button hub included?

No. This is a rim only. A button hub and a quick release are needed to fit it to a wheelbase and both are sold separately. The quick releases and button hubs page is the place to start if you need one.

Does the open profile actually feel lighter?

The open profile removes material from the outer edge of the rim, which is where mass has the greatest effect on inertia. That makes the difference feel larger in the hands than a raw weight comparison would suggest, particularly on quick direction changes.

Will it fit a Fanatec or MOZA hub?

Yes. The Fanatec Podium Button Module and ClubSport Universal Hub V2 are both confirmed, as are the MOZA CS Pro, CS V2P and RS V2. Anything else running the standard 70mm PCD pattern is worth checking with us before you order.

Can I drive it without gloves?

Yes. The moulded silicone grip is non-porous, so it does not absorb sweat and stays consistent bare-handed. Gloves work fine with it too if that is your preference.
