Description

Flat at the bottom, closed at the top

The classic GT rim shape. A 330mm circle flattened across the bottom to clear your legs, with the top of the rim left complete so your hands always find something at twelve o'clock.

That closed top is the whole distinction between this wheel and its open sibling, and it is a real preference rather than a spec. Drivers who steer hand over hand, or who ever cross their hands in a recovery, want the rim continuous. Aircraft grade aluminium spokes with moulded silicone hand grips, on a 6 x 70mm PCD bolt circle that matches the button hubs and quick releases most direct drive owners already run.

Key features

  • 330mm diameter
  • Flat bottom, closed top rim
  • 6 x 70mm PCD bolt circle
  • Moulded silicone hand grips
  • Aircraft grade aluminium spokes
  • Anti-slip textured grip surface

Closed top or open top

A closed rim gives you a continuous surface all the way around. If your hands ever leave the quarter to three position, that matters, because there is always rim where you reach for it. Rally, drift and anything with an opposite lock moment all favour a closed top.

An open top rim removes the section at twelve o'clock, which formula drivers prefer because their hands never go there and the gap improves the view of the display behind. If that describes your racing, the open flat-bottom version is the one to look at.

Why flat at the bottom

A flattened bottom edge buys you knee clearance, which matters most in a reclined GT seating position where your legs come up toward the wheel. It also gives you a visual reference for straight ahead without looking away from the road.

If you want the rim round all the way around, the 330mm round wheel is the same rim in a full circle. Same diameter, same grip, same bolt circle.

Silicone rather than leather

Silicone grips do something leather cannot: they stay grippy with damp hands. Two hours into a stint that is worth more than the look of stitched leather, and they wipe clean rather than absorbing everything.

The trade is feel. Leather and suede are warmer to hold and age better. If you want that, the 350mm deep dish wheel is wrapped in an Alcantara style material instead.

Our expert take

"Closed versus open is one of the few wheel decisions that is genuinely about how you drive rather than what looks good. If you have ever caught a slide with your hands crossed, buy the closed rim. If you are strictly formula and never leave nine and three, the open one gives you a better view of the dash."
