Description

The arm your peripherals hang from

A shifter has to sit where your hand naturally falls, and that is almost never where the chassis happens to end. This 240mm length of 80x40mm anodised black profile bolts to the side of the frame and gives you a mounting surface exactly where you want one.

It ships with the brackets, screws, nuts and an end cap, so it goes on as a complete job. It suits the aluminium chassis rigs across the TR200, TRA, TR160, TR120, TR80S, TR40S and TRK frames.

Trak Racer 240mm aluminium profile side mount

Key features

  • 240mm of 80x40mm profile
  • Anodised black finish
  • Brackets, screws and nuts included
  • End cap supplied
  • Fits the aluminium profile cockpit range
  • Position adjustable along the chassis

The arm, and the mount that goes on it

This is the support arm rather than the peripheral mount itself. The shifter or handbrake bolts to a dedicated mount, and that mount clamps to this profile. Buying the arm gives you the structure and the mounting surface, not the shifter cradle.

That separation is deliberate. It means one arm can carry a sequential shifter this season and a handbrake the next without buying a new support. Our range of racing simulator accessories covers the peripheral mounts that fit it.

Getting the position right

Sit in the rig before you tighten anything. The right height for a sequential shifter is roughly where your hand rests when your arm is relaxed and slightly bent, which is usually lower and further back than people first guess.

The arm clamps into the 8mm slot on the chassis, so it slides along the frame and can be raised or lowered until it is right. Nothing is drilled and nothing is permanent.

One arm or two

Most people start with one and add the second later, usually when a handbrake joins the shifter on the other side. If you already know you want both, the set of two 240mm supports covers both sides in a single order.

For a longer reach, the side chassis supports run to 580mm and beyond, which suits flight controls and larger button boxes more than a shifter does.

Our expert take

"Set the shifter position with the seat where you actually drive, not where it is when you are leaning in to tighten a bolt. Nearly every shifter we see mounted too high was positioned by someone standing beside the rig with a spanner."

Frequently asked questions

Does this include a shifter mount?

No. This is the support arm and its brackets. The shifter or handbrake mount clamps onto this profile and is sold separately, which is what lets one arm carry different peripherals over time.

Which cockpits does it fit?

The aluminium profile range: TR200, TRA, TR160, TR120, TR80S, TR40S and TRK.

What is in the box?

The 240mm profile, the mounting brackets, the fixing screws and nuts, and an end cap.

Can I move it after fitting?

Yes. It clamps into the 8mm slot on the chassis, so it slides along the frame and adjusts for height without drilling.
