Cockpit Only, or a Complete Package

Most people arrive here wanting one of two things. Either a bare frame to move existing gear onto, or a finished rig that arrives ready to drive. Both are here, along with simpler wheel stands for a setup that has to pack away. The finished builds are the ones worth understanding, because matching a wheelbase, pedals and a seat to a frame yourself is where most builds go wrong.

Our own racing simulator packages are built and tested here in staged specifications, so you can start sensibly and step up later without replacing the frame. There are PlayStation and Xbox versions as well as PC, and F1 specific builds for open wheel drivers.

What a Sim Racing Cockpit Actually Does

The job of a sim racing cockpit is to stop things moving. A wheel clamped to a desk flexes under load, so the torque your wheelbase generates gets absorbed by the desk instead of reaching your hands. The same happens under braking, where a pedal set that slides even slightly makes consistent pressure impossible.

A rigid frame removes that variable. Your seating position stays identical from one session to the next, your braking point becomes repeatable, and the force feedback you paid for arrives intact. It is the least exciting upgrade in sim racing and one of the most noticeable.

Tube or Aluminium Profile Sim Racing Cockpits

Frames come in two constructions and the difference is real. Tubular steel is welded, arrives largely built and is the stiffer option for the money, which is why the TR8 Pro V2 and the TR5 suit a strong direct drive wheelbase straight out of the box.

Aluminium profile is extruded and bolted, so it adjusts and extends in every direction. The TR120S V2, the TR160 V5 and the TR80S take mounts, shelves, monitor arms and later a motion platform wherever you need them. If you expect the rig to keep changing, profile is the better long term buy.

How Much Sim Racing Rig You Actually Need

Bigger is not automatically better, and a frame that overwhelms the room gets used less. The TR40S is the compact end and suits a first serious rig or a shared space. The TR80S steps up in adjustability, and the TR120S V2 and TR160 V5 are full size builds with room for triple screens and heavier hardware.

Measure the space before you choose, including how far back the seat travels and where a monitor stand will sit. Our monitor stands range covers cockpit mounted and freestanding options, and the freestanding ones change the footprint considerably.

Formula or GT Seating Position

Open wheel driving puts you low with your legs raised and the wheel high. GT and touring car driving sits you more upright with the wheel closer to your chest. The position changes how the same car feels, so it is worth choosing deliberately rather than by looks.

The Playseat Formula Instinct and Formula Intelligence are built for the formula position, and the Playseat Trophy covers GT. If you switch between both, a convertible frame saves buying twice. Convertible Frames and Team Liveries

The TRX V2 is the one that does both jobs. It converts between formula and GT geometry rather than committing you to one, which is the sensible choice for a rig more than one person drives or a driver who races several classes.

It comes in Alpine, Tifosi Red, Silver Arrow, Bull Blue, Papaya and Black, and the BWT Alpine F1 Team TRA Hybrid is a licensed build for anyone who wants the team look. The frame underneath is the same regardless of which livery you choose.

Console or PC

PC gives you the widest hardware and software compatibility and every wheelbase we stock works with it. PlayStation and Xbox are more restrictive, because the wheel has to be licensed for the console, which is the single most common thing buyers get caught by.

We build console specific packages for exactly that reason, so the wheel, pedals and frame in the box are known to work together on your platform. If you are buying parts separately, check the licensing on the wheelbase first and work back from there, then choose pedals to suit.

Leaving Room for Motion

Motion is the upgrade most people want eventually and the one most frames cannot take later. Adding it means the rig has to carry actuators and the loads they generate, so the frame decides whether it is possible at all.

Aluminium profile builds are the ones that accept it cleanly. We build motion packages around MOZA and Sigma Integrale systems, and the full range sits in motion simulators. If motion is even a maybe, buy the frame that allows it.

Racing Simulator FAQs

What is the most realistic racing simulator?

Realism comes from the combination rather than any single part. A rigid frame lets you feel what the wheelbase is doing, load cell pedals make braking repeatable, and motion or tactile feedback adds what your body would normally sense. A stiff frame with good pedals will feel more realistic than a flexible one carrying an expensive wheel.

How much does a full racing simulator cost?

The range runs from a wheel stand through to a full motion rig, so the spread is very wide. Prices sit on each product page rather than here because they change. As a rule, put the money into the frame and the pedals first, because both are harder to upgrade around later.

Do I need a full cockpit or will a wheel stand do?

A wheel stand is fine for a belt driven or gear driven wheel and for a space that has to be packed away. Once you move to direct drive, the forces will find any flex in a stand, and a cockpit that ties the wheel, pedals and seat into one frame is what keeps your inputs consistent.

Can I add motion to a racing simulator later?

Only if the frame allows it. Aluminium profile builds generally do and tubular frames generally do not, so if motion is a possibility it should shape which frame you buy now rather than being solved later.

Will a racing simulator work with my PlayStation or Xbox?

The frame works with anything. The wheelbase is the part that has to be licensed for your console, and that is where compatibility is won or lost. Our console packages are built around wheels that are licensed for the platform they are sold for.

What is a sim racing cockpit?

It is the frame that holds your wheel, pedals and seat in a fixed position. It keeps everything rigid under load, so your seating position and braking feel stay the same every session.

Is a tube or aluminium profile sim racing rig better?

Welded tube is stiffer for the money and arrives largely built, which suits a rig that will stay roughly as it is. Aluminium profile bolts together from slotted rails, so mounts and monitor arms go anywhere along the rail and it extends later. If the setup will keep changing, or motion is a possibility, profile is the one to buy.
