Racing Controls

Sim racing controls are the parts you actually touch: the wheelbase, wheel, pedals and the levers beside you. Gamer Gear Direct groups the whole range by type here, so you can compare like with like before committing to a setup.

Start With the Wheelbase

The wheelbase is the motor behind the wheel, and it sets the ceiling for everything else. It decides how much force you feel, how much detail comes through, and which consoles the setup will run on.

Because it drives those choices, it is the part worth settling first. The full range sits in Direct Drive Wheelbases.

Wheels and Rims

The rim is what you hold, and it carries your paddles, buttons and dials. Formula, GT, round and truck shapes each suit different cars, and most bases take more than one rim.

Rims are in Sim Racing Wheels, and the adapters that join them to a base are in Quick Releases.

Pedals

Pedals do more for consistency than any other upgrade. Entry sets read how far you press; load cell sets read how hard, which is what makes brake points repeatable. Active pedals push back, so you feel the limit rather than reading it.

Two and three pedal sets, clutch modules and mounting hardware are in Sim Racing Pedals.

Shifters and Handbrakes

A shifter suits older cars, rally and anything with a manual gate. Sequential units snap forward and back, H-pattern units move through a gate, and some do both.

A handbrake earns its place in drift and rally, where you pull it mid corner rather than at a standstill. Both are in Sim Racing Shifters and Sim Racing Handbrakes.

Dashes, Button Plates and Add-Ons

A dash display puts gear, revs and lap delta in your line of sight, and a button plate adds rotaries and switches so brake bias and traction control stay under your thumbs.

Displays are in Sim Racing Dashboards. For truck sims, the larger plainer rims built for long hauls are in Truck Sim Wheels.

If you would rather not match parts yourself, Sim Racing Wheel & Pedal Bundles pairs a base, wheel and pedals that are known to work together.

If you want the frame and seat included as well, that is a complete rig and lives in Racing Simulator Packages.

Controls by Platform

Console support comes from the wheelbase rather than the wheel or pedals, so check the base first and the rest follows. Setups licensed for each console are grouped in PlayStation Steering Wheels and Xbox Steering Wheels.

Sim Racing Control FAQs

What counts as sim racing controls?

The wheelbase, the wheel or rim, the pedals, and the shifters and handbrakes beside you. Dashes, button plates and quick releases sit alongside them as add-ons.

What should I buy first?

The wheelbase, because it sets how the whole setup feels and which platforms it runs on. Pedals are usually the next upgrade that changes your driving most.

Do all the parts have to be the same brand?

Not always, but staying inside one ecosystem is the simple path. Mounting patterns and connectors differ between makers, and an adapter covers most of the gaps.

Can I start small and upgrade later?

Yes. Wheels, pedals and bases are separate components, so you can replace one and keep the rest as long as the mounting matches.

Do I need a shifter and handbrake?

Only for the driving that uses them. Paddle shifting covers most modern racing, while a shifter and handbrake matter for rally, drift and classic cars.

Will these controls work on a console?

That depends on the wheelbase being licensed for your console. Check the base, then pick the rim and pedals that fit it.
