Trak Racer TR80S Racing Simulator Cockpit
The TR80S is the rig that gives you both driving positions without charging for the privilege. Its quick-change hybrid pedal plate lets you race feet-up in a formula position or feet-down in GT, and unlike every other rig in the range that offers the option, here it is included in the price.
Trak Racer were first to market with that hybrid plate and the TR80S is where it lives as standard. Everything else about the rig is built around 80 by 40mm thicker-walled aluminium extrusion rated for wheelbases from 0 to 16Nm.
It sits in the middle of the racing simulator cockpits: more frame and more capability than the TR40S, without the price of the 30Nm rigs above it.
Key features
- 80 x 40mm thicker-walled aluminium T-slot extruded profile
- Formula and GT hybrid pedal plate included as standard
- Changeover between positions takes around 30 minutes
- Rated for wheelbases from 0 to 16Nm
- Side-mounted wheel uprights on heavy-duty 80 x 40mm brackets
- High and low pedal positions
- Assembled footprint of 660 x 1200mm
- Weighs 32kg with an anodised black finish
Both driving positions, included
Formula and GT are genuinely different ways to sit. Formula puts your feet up and your back well reclined; GT sits you far more upright with the pedals below you. Most drivers have a preference, and a lot of households have two people who disagree.
The TR80S ships with the quick-change hybrid pedal plate that converts between them, and Trak Racer quote around 30 minutes for the changeover. On the TR120S and TR160 the same capability is a paid upgrade, and on the TR40S and TR8 Pro it is not available at all.
That makes this the cheapest route to a genuinely convertible cockpit in the range, which is a specific and defensible reason to choose it over rigs that cost more.
Sixteen newton metres and a heavier profile
The step up from the TR40S is structural. Where that rig uses 40mm profile, the TR80S is built on 80 by 40mm thicker-walled extrusion with side-mounted wheel uprights on heavy-duty brackets, and the torque rating moves from 0 to 10Nm up to 0 to 16Nm.
Sixteen newton metres covers the middle of the direct drive market comfortably. If your wheelbase is above that, the TR120S V2 is rated to 30Nm and up.
Trak Racer rate this rig's pedal tray adjustability as the highest in the extrusion range, which is consistent with a frame designed around a hybrid plate from the start.
What you get and what you add
Included: the chassis, the wheel mount, the hybrid pedal mount, rubber feet, cable ties, coloured dust strips, all fixtures and an assembly tool kit.
Not included: seat, seat brackets, seat slider rails, shifter mount, monitor stand, wheelbase and pedals. Seat sliders and the shifter mount are optional here where the TR160 includes the shifter mount as standard.
The frame is pre-drilled for the major steering wheels, pedals and shifters, so most gear bolts on without modification. Browse the racing simulator accessories for what goes on top.
Same footprint, more rig
Assembled the TR80S occupies 660 by 1200mm, exactly the same floor area as the TR40S, while weighing 32kg against 24.8kg. You are buying material and capability rather than size.
That is worth knowing if the room is the constraint. Stepping up from the TR40S to the TR80S costs you nothing in floor space, where stepping up to the TR120S or TR160 adds 245mm of length.
Like the TR40S, the TR8 Pro V2 and the TRX, it is motion ready but needs a motion base such as the Trak Racer TR Move platform, which runs D-BOX actuators. Only the TR120S V2 and TR160 V5 take a motion platform without one, and if motion is the main event those are the frames to look at.
Our expert take
"The hybrid plate as standard is the reason to buy this rig. On the TR120S and TR160 you pay extra for the same capability, and if switching between formula and GT is something you will actually do, the TR80S is the value pick in the entire range."
"Watch the torque ceiling against your wheelbase, not against your ambitions. Sixteen newton metres is a lot of wheel for most people, but if you are already eyeing a 25 or 30Nm base, buy the frame that carries it rather than the one that nearly does."

Frequently asked questions
Is the formula and GT hybrid plate really included?
Yes. Trak Racer supply the quick-change hybrid pedal plate as standard on the TR80S, where the TR120S V2 and TR160 V5 offer it as a paid upgrade and the TR40S and TR8 Pro do not offer it at all.
How long does the changeover take?
Trak Racer quote around 30 minutes to move between the formula and GT positions.
What wheelbase torque does it handle?
0 to 16Nm. For higher torque, the TR120S V2 and TR160 V5 are rated to 30Nm and above.
Does it include a seat?
No. Seat, seat brackets, seat sliders, shifter mount and monitor stand are all chosen separately.
How big is it assembled?
660 x 1200mm and 32kg, the same floor area as the TR40S in a heavier frame.
