Trak Racer TR40S Flight Simulator Cockpit
Flight simulation asks different things of a cockpit than racing does. You sit more upright, you sit for longer, and your hands work at your sides rather than in front of you. A racing bucket bolted to a racing frame gets you most of the way there and then fights you on all three.
The TR40S Flight is Trak Racer's answer: the 40 x 40mm aluminium extrusion frame, supplied as a complete flight bundle with the reclining Trak Racer Flight Seat, a four-way adjustable pedal mount ready for rudder pedals, and left and right side mounts for your stick and throttle.
It sits with the rest of the flight simulator cockpits we stock, and the frame underneath is the same one that carries the TR40S Racing Simulator.
Key features
- Complete flight bundle with the reclining Trak Racer Flight Seat
- HOTAS cut-outs and lumbar support in the seat
- Four-way fully adjustable pedal mount, pre-drilled for rudder pedals
- Left and right side mounts for stick and throttle
- 40 x 40mm aluminium T-slot extruded profile
- Lightest and least expensive flight bundle in the range
- Seat slider rails available as an option
- Motion ready, base required, such as the Trak Racer TR Move platform (D-BOX actuators)
A seat built for sitting still
A racing bucket exists to stop your body moving sideways. Flight has no sideways. What it has is two hours in one position, and a deeply bolstered shell makes that worse rather than better.
A racing bucket is designed to stop your body moving under cornering load. Flight has no cornering load. What it has is two hours in one position, which is a completely different problem and one a deeply bolstered shell actively makes worse.
The Flight Seat reclines and it is shaped to leave your shoulders free. On the smallest frame in the range that matters more, not less, because this is the cockpit most likely to be used in a room where you cannot simply get up and walk around.
Rudders first, then everything else
Rudder pedals are the control most people get wrong, because they need to sit further forward than racing pedals and they need to stay put. They bolt straight to the pedal baseplate and adjust on the slider for reach and angle. Trak Racer name the Logitech Flight Rudder Pedals and Heavy Equipment set, the Thrustmaster T.Flight Rudder Pedals and TPR Pendular Rudder Pedals, and the Virpil Ace.
Left and right side mounts come with the cockpit for the stick and throttle, covering Thrustmaster across the HOTAS Warthog and Warthog dual throttles, the T.Flight HOTAS One and 4, the T.16000M and FCS, the TCA Quadrant, Officer and Sidestick Airbus editions and the TWCS throttle; Logitech and Saitek including the X52, X52 Professional and X56, the Throttle Quadrant and the Extreme 3D Pro; Honeycomb Bravo; Virpil VPC MongoosT-50; VKB Gunfighter III; VirtualFly TQ3 and TQ6 Plus; and Hori.
For yokes, Trak Racer name the Honeycomb Aeronautical Alpha Flight Controls and the Logitech Flight Yoke System, both by clamp, plus the Logitech Flight Switch, Multi and Instrument panels, Logitech Heavy Equipment and the Turtle Beach VelocityOne Flight, with the Alpha and the Logitech yoke fitting by clamp. A centre flight stick mount is available separately if you fly something that wants the stick between your knees rather than at your side.
The lightest way into a flight cockpit
The TR40S is the smallest and lightest frame Trak Racer build, which makes this the least expensive complete flight bundle they offer. For a first proper cockpit that is a genuine advantage, particularly in a room the rig has to share.
The frame is 40 x 40mm aluminium extrusion. If you also intend to race on it, note the wheelbase rating is 0 to 10Nm, which suits belt-driven and entry direct drive wheels rather than strong ones.
For flight alone that rating matters far less, because a yoke or a stick puts nothing like the load through a frame that a direct drive wheelbase does. This is the frame to choose if flying is the point and racing is occasional.
Screens and motion
The monitor stand is optional, with integrated single through to quad configurations available, and freestanding stands as an alternative for larger arrays.
The TR40S Flight is motion ready, with a motion base required such as the Trak Racer TR Move platform, which runs D-BOX actuators. The TR80S and TR8 Pro flight cockpits are the same; the TR120S V2 and TR160 take motion without a base.
If you later add a motion base, talk to us first. Motion changes what you want from monitor mounting, because screens fixed to a moving platform move with it. The stands are in the sim racing monitor stands.
Our expert take
"Buying the bundle beats assembling it yourself here, and by a wider margin than on the bigger frames. On an entry cockpit the seat is the largest single cost, and getting the right one included changes the maths completely."
"For someone who flies and only dabbles in racing, the TR40S Flight is the smart buy. The 10Nm ceiling that rules it out as a serious racing rig is close to irrelevant to a yoke and a set of rudder pedals."

Frequently asked questions
What makes this different to the racing version?
The frame is identical. What you pay for is the bundle: the reclining Flight Seat, a pedal mount set up for rudders, and left and right control side mounts. The TR40S Racing Simulator ships without a seat.
Which rudder pedals fit?
Trak Racer name five sets including the Logitech and Thrustmaster rudder pedals and the Virpil Ace. The full list is in the body of this page, and we can confirm any model you are unsure about.
Which yokes fit?
The Honeycomb Alpha and Logitech Flight Yoke System both fit by clamp, and the Turtle Beach VelocityOne mounts to the Trak Racer yoke mount.
Can I race on it too?
Yes, though the wheelbase rating is 0 to 10Nm, which suits belt-driven and entry-level direct drive wheels. If racing is the main event, look at a frame further up the range.
Is a monitor included?
No. Monitors, stands, rudder pedals, yokes and HOTAS gear are all separate. Start with the sim racing monitor stands.
