Description

Trak Racer TR120S V2 Racing Simulator Cockpit

The TR120S V2 is where the range stops compromising. It is rated for wheelbases from 0 to 30Nm and beyond, it takes a motion platform without needing a separate motion base, and it costs very little more than the rig below it.

That last point is the interesting one. The step from the TR80S to the TR120S V2 nearly doubles the torque ceiling and changes the motion path entirely, for a difference most buyers would not notice on a monthly payment.

It is built on 120 by 40mm thicker-walled anodised aluminium extrusion, ships with the TR One wheel system and premium seat slider rails, and sits near the top of the racing simulator cockpits we stock.

Key features

  • 120 x 40mm thicker-walled aluminium T-slot extruded profile
  • Rated for wheelbases from 0 to 30Nm and above
  • Takes motion direct-fit with no separate motion base
  • TR One modular wheel mount system included
  • Premium seat slider rails included
  • Choice of pre-drilled, heel plate or hybrid pedal mount
  • Supports quad monitor stands and triples up to 45 inches
  • Assembled footprint of 660 x 1445mm at 37kg

Thirty newton metres, and the motion question

Two specifications separate this rig from everything below it. The first is torque: 0 to 30Nm and above, against 16Nm on the TR80S and 25Nm on the tube-frame TR8 Pro. That clears the strongest direct drive bases on the market rather than nearly reaching them.

The second matters more if motion is in your future. The TR120S V2 accepts a motion platform direct-fit, with no motion base required. The TR40S, TR80S, TR8 Pro and TRX all need one, such as the Trak Racer TR Move platform, which is a significant additional cost and a different install.

If you have any intention of adding motion, this is the cheapest frame in the range that takes it directly. That is a structural advantage, not a marketing one.

The TR One wheel system

The wheel mount here is the TR One base kit, built from two 80 by 40mm aluminium profiles and four anodised plates. It is a modular system rather than a fixed bracket, which means the mount adapts as your wheelbase changes rather than being replaced.

It gives angle adjustment along with forward and back fine tuning, so the wheel deck can be set to the driver rather than approximately near them.

That modularity is the same philosophy as the TR-One accessory mounts, and it is one of the things you are paying for over the TR80S.

Pedal mount, your choice

Trak Racer let you select the pedal mount rather than shipping one. The options are a pre-drilled plate, an aluminium profile mount with heel plate, or the strengthened hybrid plate.

The hybrid plate is the one that converts between formula, GT and inverted positions, and Trak Racer quote around 30 minutes for the changeover. Note that unlike the TR80S, where the hybrid plate is standard, here it is a paid upgrade.

Whichever you pick, the plate has a fine-tune slide function and options for high or low positioning. Premium seat slider rails are included as standard, which is not the case on the TR40S or TR80S.

Room for four screens

The monitor ceiling steps up here too. Where the TR40S and TR80S cap at a single 80 inch display or a 32 inch triple, the TR120S V2 supports triples up to 45 inches and quad configurations.

Assembled it occupies 660 by 1445mm and weighs 37kg. That is 245mm longer than the TR80S, so measure the room rather than assuming the larger rig drops into the same space.

Browse the sim racing monitor stands for the stands themselves, and the racing simulator accessories for everything else that bolts on.

Our expert take

"The gap between the TR80S and the TR120S V2 is the narrowest step in the range for what it buys. Nearly double the torque ceiling and direct-fit motion, and the only reason to choose the TR80S instead is if you want the hybrid pedal plate included rather than as an upgrade."

"Direct-fit motion is the specification nobody asks about until the day they want motion, and then it is the only thing that matters. On this frame and the TR160 you add a platform. On the rigs below you add a platform and a base."

Frequently asked questions

What wheelbase torque does it handle?

Trak Racer rate the TR120S V2 for wheelbases from 0 to 30Nm and above, which covers the strongest direct drive bases available.

Does it need a motion base?

No. The TR120S V2 and the TR160 V5 take a motion platform direct-fit. The TR40S, TR80S, TR8 Pro and TRX all require a base such as the Trak Racer TR Move platform, which runs D-BOX actuators.

Is the formula and GT hybrid plate included?

No, it is one of three pedal mount options and a paid upgrade. The TR80S includes the hybrid plate as standard.

Are seat sliders included?

Yes. Premium seat slider rails come as standard, which is not the case on the TR40S or TR80S. The seat itself is chosen separately.

How many monitors will it take?

Triples up to 45 inches and quad configurations, against a 32 inch triple ceiling on the TR40S and TR80S.
