Description

Trak Racer RE2 Dual-Lock Reclining Sim Racing Seat, Black Diamond Stitch

Reclining seats have a reputation for going soft under load, and for most of them it is deserved. The RE2 is Trak Racer's answer to why, and this is the all-black version of it.

A reclining seat normally locks its backrest from one side only, which leaves the other side free to flex. Under a strong wheelbase that shows up as a backrest that twists slightly with load, and it is the reason a lot of drivers give up on recliners and go back to a fixed bucket.

This one locks from both sides, on a welded tubular steel frame, finished in premium diamond-stitched PU leather. It sits with the rest of the racing seats we carry.

Key features

  • Dual-side steel locking recliner assemblies
  • Welded tubular steel frame
  • Reinforced shoulder structure and cross-braced base
  • Premium diamond-stitched pu leather upholstery
  • Supportive cold-moulded foam
  • Double stitched with high-strength nylon thread
  • Bottom-mount fitting for rails and sliders
  • Assembles in approximately 15 to 20 minutes

Locked from both sides

The dual-side locking assemblies are the whole design argument. Steel recliners on both sides of the seat mean the backrest is held at two points rather than one, which removes the torsional flex that single-sided recliners live with.

In practice that is the difference between a reclining seat you can run with high torque direct drive and one you cannot. Every input through the wheel loads the backrest, and a backrest that gives even a little is movement you are bracing against rather than driving through.

The frame underneath is welded tubular steel with a reinforced shoulder structure and a cross-braced base, so the rigidity is not resting on the recliners alone.

One rig, more than one seating position

Recline matters more than people expect once a rig does more than one job. A formula seating position wants the backrest well reclined and the pedals far forward; a GT or truck position wants you far more upright. On a fixed bucket you compromise between them.

The same applies to sharing. Two drivers with different builds can each have a position rather than splitting the difference, and it takes seconds rather than a rebuild.

Assembly onto compatible bottom-mount rails or sliders takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes.

The diamond stitching is the visual signature here. Quilted panels across the centre of the base and backrest break up what would otherwise be a large flat expanse of black, which is why this finish photographs better than a plain one and why it reads as a road-car seat rather than a track item.

All-black also disappears into a rig rather than competing with it. If your cockpit already has colour in the frame or the wheel, this is the finish that lets those be the accent.

Mounting, fit and the other colourway

This is a bottom-mount seat, fixing underneath rather than at the sides. That is the compatibility fact to check first, because bottom and side mounting are not interchangeable on a given frame. Sliders are sold separately and are in the seat mounts and sliders.

Trak Racer give a recommended waist range of 28 to 44 inches. Compatible frames include the tube frames, the RS6, TR8 PRO, TRX, Porsche 91XTR and Carbon Fibre TRX, and the extrusion frames, the TR200, TRA, TR160, TR120, TR80S, TR40S and TRK, plus many third-party rigs where suitable bottom-mount rails are used. Supported motion systems include D-BOX, Sigma Integrale and Qubic Systems.

The same seat is available as the RE2 in Black and Red if you prefer that finish. If you would rather have a fixed bucket, the fibreglass seats in the racing seats are the alternative.

Our expert take

"Dual-side locking is the specification that makes a reclining sim seat viable at high torque. Single-sided recliners are fine on a belt-driven wheel and start to feel vague on direct drive, and most buyers never find out why."

"Recline earns its place the moment your rig does more than one thing. Formula and GT seating positions are genuinely different, and switching between them on a fixed bucket means living with a compromise in both."
