Description

A lower head for tight clearances

A standard hex head stands proud of the surface it clamps. Most of the time that does not matter. Occasionally it does, and a pedal plate that has to slide past a bracket, or a part that sits against another part, needs a head that keeps out of the way.

The button head is the answer. It is a domed, low profile head in M8, supplied in a set of six, and it is commonly used on Trak Racer TR160 pedal kits where clearance around the pedal deck is tight.

Key features

  • M8 thread
  • Button head profile
  • Set of six
  • Used on TR160 pedal kits

Where head height becomes a problem

Pedal decks are the usual case. The plate has to move through its adjustment range without a fastener head catching on the rail beside it, and a few millimetres of head height is the difference between smooth travel and a mechanism that binds.

The domed shape also matters where a foot or a hand can reach the fastener. A rounded head is far less unpleasant to catch a shin on than a sharp hex, which is why they turn up around the footwell and near the seat. The rest of our racing simulator accessories range carries the standard hex heads for everywhere else. For standard fixing work the M8 x 20mm set of twenty is the better buy, and the hardware mounts range covers the brackets they hold.

Our expert take

"Button heads are a specific solution to a specific problem. If your pedal plate is catching on something as it slides, or a bracket will not sit flat because a bolt head is in the way, this is the shape you need. Otherwise a standard hex head is fine."

- Blake Sterling, Founder & CEO, Gamer Gear Direct
