Description

The nut that stays where you put it

Standard T-nuts have one irritating habit: they drop. Slide one into a vertical rail, let go of it, and it falls to the bottom of the channel where you cannot reach it. The ball-bearing T-nut solves that with a small spring loaded ball that holds it in position in the slot until you tighten the bolt.

Each set pairs those nuts with M8 x 16mm hex bolts, and the nuts are nickel-plated carbon steel. They fit the 8mm slot used across the aluminium Trak Racer system, and are available in a pack of 10 sets or a pack of 20 sets.

Trak Racer hex bolt with ball-bearing T-nut

Key features

  • M8 x 16mm hex bolts
  • Ball-bearing T-nuts
  • Choose 10 sets or 20 sets
  • Nickel-plated carbon steel nuts
  • Fits 8mm T-slot profile
  • Bolt and nut supplied as matched pairs

Why the detent changes the job

Working alone on a vertical rail is where this earns its money. You position the nut, it stays, and you can bring the bracket up to it with both hands free. With a plain T-nut the same job needs a finger holding the nut, a third hand for the bracket, and a fourth for the driver.

It also means you can add hardware to a built rig without dismantling anything. Drop the nut in from the open end of the slot, slide it to where you need it, and it holds while you fit the part. That is how most of the hardware mounts in the Trak Racer system is designed to be retrofitted. They pair naturally with the 40mm corner bracket and cap set and the rest of the racing simulator accessories that mount into the same channel.

Our expert take

"The ball-bearing nut is one of those small engineering decisions that changes how a build feels. Anyone who has assembled a rig with plain T-nuts and then used these understands immediately. Buy more than you think you need, because every accessory you add later wants a couple."

- Blake Sterling, Founder & CEO, Gamer Gear Direct

Frequently asked questions

What slot size do these fit?

8mm T-slot, which is the profile used on Trak Racer aluminium cockpits and monitor stands.

What does the ball bearing do?

It holds the nut in position in the slot before the bolt is tightened, so the nut does not slide or drop while you are lining a bracket up. Once tightened, it clamps like any other T-nut.

Should I take the 10 or the 20?

Ten sets covers fitting out a chassis with brackets and a handful of accessories. Twenty is the better buy if you are assembling a rig from scratch or adding a monitor stand at the same time, since every bracket needs at least two. The bolts are M8 x 16mm in both packs.
