Description

Get the cables off the floor

A finished sim rig has more cables than people expect. Wheelbase power, wheelbase data, pedal USB, shifter, handbrake, monitor power, monitor signal, and a headset lead trailing behind you. Left alone they gather in the footwell, which is the one place in the cockpit where you least want something to snag.

This set of ten low profile clips slides into the 8mm slot on an aluminium profile frame and holds each cable against the extrusion where it belongs. There is no adhesive to peel off and nothing to drill. The clips use the channel that is already running the length of every rail on the rig, which is how the whole Trak Racer aluminium system is put together across its aluminium chassis rigs.

Key features

  • Ten clips per set
  • Slides into 8mm slot profile
  • Low profile design
  • No adhesive or drilling
  • Repositionable along the rail
  • Suits wheelbase, pedal and monitor cables

Why the footwell matters most

Cables in the footwell are not just untidy. A pedal cable that loops near the heel plate will eventually get stood on, and a USB lead that has been trodden on enough times starts dropping connection mid race. Routing the pedal and wheelbase leads up the frame rather than across the floor removes the failure mode entirely.

It also makes the rig easier to move. When every cable is clipped to the chassis, rolling the cockpit does not drag a bundle of leads across the carpet behind it.

Using the slot rather than sticking to it

Adhesive cable clips fail. They let go in summer heat, they leave residue on anodised aluminium, and once they have fallen off they do not go back on. These slide into the 8mm slot that runs along every face of the profile, so they are held mechanically and can be moved along the rail whenever the layout changes.

That matters because sim rigs are never finished. Every time you add a direct drive wheelbases, swap pedals or mount another screen, the cable run changes. Clips that reposition in seconds are worth more than clips that were perfectly placed for a setup you no longer have.

Planning the run

Start at the device and work back toward the PC, leaving a small service loop at each end so the wheelbase or pedal deck can still be adjusted without unclipping everything. Ten clips covers a typical single seat cockpit with a wheelbase, pedals and one screen.

If you are building out the rest of the rig at the same time, the same 8mm slot carries the brackets, mounts and hardware mounts that the rest of the Trak Racer system relies on, so cable routing can be planned around where those parts will end up rather than retrofitted afterwards.

Our expert take

"Cable management is the job everyone puts off and then does twice. Do it once, properly, with clips that go in the slot rather than stick to the frame, and you never think about it again. The pedal cable is the one to get right first because it is the one that gets stood on."

Frequently asked questions

What size slot do these fit?

They are made for 8mm slot aluminium extrusion, which is the profile used across Trak Racer aluminium cockpits and monitor stands.

How many cables will ten clips manage?

Ten is enough for a typical single seat rig running a wheelbase, a pedal set and one monitor. If you are running triples, a shifter and a handbrake, a second set is worth having.

Will they mark the profile?

No. They locate in the slot rather than clamping onto the outside of the extrusion, and there is no adhesive involved, so nothing touches the anodised finish.

Can I move them after fitting?

Yes. They slide along the slot, so you can reposition them whenever you change the layout of the rig.
