Thrustmaster Sol-R 3 AVA Add-On Grip
The Thrustmaster Sol-R 3 AVA Add-On Grip is a precise, ambidextrous grip designed for space combat and exploration on PC. It attaches to a Thrustmaster AVA or Sol-R base, both sold separately.
It has 21 mappable action buttons, including 2 triggers, 2 hat switches, a ministick and a thumbwheel, plus a built-in twist Z axis that uses Thrustmaster's H.E.A.R.T magnetic sensors.
It is part of the Thrustmaster range.
Key features
- 21 mappable action buttons
- Built-in Z axis with H.E.A.R.T sensors
- 2 triggers, one dual-position
- 2 hat switches
- Backlit ministick
- Thumbwheel
- Ambidextrous, interchangeable rests
- 2 STAR cams for AVA bases
- Fits AVA and Sol-R bases
- T.A.R.G.E.T software on PC
A grip made for space
The built-in Z axis is what sets the Sol-R 3 apart. Twisting the grip gives you yaw control on the grip itself, which is essential for steering a spacecraft.
The Z axis and the 2 virtual axes on the ministick and thumbwheel use H.E.A.R.T magnetic sensors for precise, contact-free readings.
Set up for either hand
Interchangeable thumb rests and hand rests let you set the grip up for your right or left hand. Run two Sol-R 3 grips and you have a matched HOSAS pair for dual-stick flying.
Tune it on an AVA base
The grip comes with 2 STAR cams, so AVA base owners can change the axis curve for space simulation. The AVA base also lets you adjust resistance, travel and damping.
The backlit ministick and science-fiction-inspired colours finish the look.
Compatible bases
The Sol-R 3 is optimised for Thrustmaster AVA and Sol-R bases. It also has limited compatibility with the HOTAS Warthog base using the Warthog converter, sold separately. On a Warthog base the LED cannot be adjusted, the Z axis does not work, the ministick works as an 8-way point of view without a click and the thumbwheel virtual axis is not available.

Our expert take
"The Sol-R 3 is a smart way to turn an AVA or Sol-R base into a proper space sim stick. The twist Z axis on the grip, a ministick and thumbwheel give you the controls Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous ask for."
"It is a grip only, so you need a compatible base, and it works best on AVA or Sol-R bases. Warthog base owners lose the Z axis and some functions. Check our joysticks range for complete sticks."

No. It is a grip only and needs a Thrustmaster AVA or Sol-R base, sold separately.

Can left-handed pilots use it?
