Description

MOZA ESX Wheel

The MOZA ESX is the Xbox licensed steering wheel in the MOZA range, built so console racers can run a full direct drive setup.

It connects straight onto any of the MOZA direct drive wheelbases, and because the Xbox licensing sits in the rim, it brings console compatibility with it.

If you are putting together an Xbox sim racing setup, the ESX is the rim that carries the official Xbox licence.

Key features

  • Officially licensed by Xbox
  • Makes any MOZA wheelbase Xbox compatible
  • Solid aluminium alloy faceplate and shifter paddles
  • ISF PU grips that resist sweat and stay put
  • 280mm wheel diameter
  • Twenty-two programmable inputs, including two joysticks
  • Ten high brightness RGB RPM LEDs with telemetry support
  • RPM lights and button mapping adjustable in MOZA Pit House
  • MOZA Quick Release for fast wheel changes
  • Hold S1 and S2 for five seconds to switch between Xbox and PC mode

Officially licensed for Xbox

MOZA builds the ESX as an officially licensed Xbox wheel, and it works out of the box with supported titles. The Xbox licensing sits in the rim, which is what makes this wheel worth knowing about: fit the ESX and the MOZA wheelbase behind it becomes Xbox compatible, whichever base that is.

Switching platforms is done from the wheel. Hold the S1 and S2 buttons together for five seconds and the base restarts into the other mode. In Xbox mode the RPM lights sweep from the left and right in towards the centre. In PC mode they breathe red, yellow and green, so you can tell which mode you are in without opening any software.

Fits the MOZA wheelbase range

MOZA lists the ESX as connecting directly to its current wheelbase range, from the entry level bases up to the Ultra models. That means the wheel is not tied to one base: if you move up to a stronger base later, the same rim goes straight onto it.

That applies to Xbox as well. The ESX carries the console licensing, so pairing it with a base you already own brings that base onto Xbox rather than leaving you to buy a second setup. If you are starting from nothing, the MOZA R3 bundle is the straightforward way in.

The ESX quick release joining the wheel to a MOZA direct drive wheelbase

Aluminium build and ISF PU grips

The faceplate and the shifter paddles are aluminium alloy, which keeps the rim from flexing when a direct drive base loads it up mid corner.

The grips are ISF PU, a material MOZA specifies as sweat resistant and non slip. It is the part of the wheel you stop thinking about an hour into a long race, which is the point of it.

Twenty-two inputs and RPM LED telemetry

There are twenty-two programmable inputs on the ESX, including two joysticks, so brake bias, traction control, the pit limiter and your usual in car adjustments can all live on the wheel instead of on the keyboard.

Ten high brightness RGB LEDs across the top give you shift timing, and MOZA's intelligent telemetry is supported. Colour, brightness and the point at which the lights come on are all adjustable in MOZA Pit House, which is also where you map the buttons.

ES or ESX, and changing the rim

The two names get mixed up constantly. The MOZA ES and the ESX share the same basic shape and the same quick release, and the ESX is the version that carries the Xbox licence. If you only ever race on PC, either will do the job. If Xbox is in the picture, the ESX is the one to look at.

Both take rim mods, which is the usual next upgrade. The ES and ESX formula wheel mod swaps the D shape for an open wheel rim and bolts onto the same faceplate, so you are not buying another wheel to change the shape of this one.

Our take

“The ESX is the wheel we point Xbox players at, because it is the MOZA rim that carries the official Xbox licence. It is a 280mm D shape, so if you mostly race open wheelers you will probably want the formula mod on top of it before long, and that is worth knowing before you order rather than after. We stock the MOZA range end to end, which means you can start here and change the rim or the base later without starting again.”

Frequently asked questions

Does the MOZA ESX wheel work on Xbox?

Yes. The ESX is officially licensed for Xbox and works out of the box with supported titles. The licensing sits in the rim, so fitting the ESX also brings the MOZA wheelbase behind it onto Xbox.

Which MOZA wheelbases does the ESX fit?

All of them. The ESX connects directly to the current MOZA wheelbase range, from the entry level bases through to the Ultra models, and it brings Xbox compatibility with it. If you want to see where this rim sits in the wider category, start with our sim racing wheels range.

How do I switch the ESX between Xbox and PC mode?

Hold the S1 and S2 buttons together for five seconds. The base restarts into the other mode. In Xbox mode the RPM lights sweep from the left and right in towards the centre. In PC mode they breathe red, yellow and green.

What is the difference between the MOZA ES and the MOZA ESX?

They share the same shape and quick release, and the ESX is the version with the official Xbox licence. For PC only racing either works. For Xbox, the ESX is the one to look at.

Can I change the shape of the rim?

Yes. The formula wheel mod replaces the D shape with an open wheel rim on the same faceplate, so you keep the wheel and change the shape.

What warranty does the MOZA ESX come with?

MOZA covers its steering wheels with a twelve month manufacturer warranty against manufacturing defects. We look after warranty claims for you as the Australian dealer, and your rights under Australian Consumer Law apply on top of the manufacturer warranty.
