Description

Trak Racer Racing TRX V2 Racing Simulator, Black

The Racing TRX V2 is the cockpit Trak Racer build when the answer is not allowed to be a compromise. It converts between formula and GT driving positions in minutes rather than half an hour, it takes wheelbases to 30Nm, and it weighs 89kg because that is what it takes to hold both while staying rigid.

The headline capability is the changeover. Trak Racer quote 3 to 5 minutes to move the TRX between a formula driving position and a GT one, with tool-free seat changes in under 10 seconds. For comparison the TR80S, TR120S and TR160 all quote around 30 minutes, and the TR8 Pro does not convert at all.

Underneath it is 2 inch tubular steel, 620 by 1507mm assembled and 89kg on the floor. It is by a wide margin the heaviest cockpit Trak Racer build, and mass is doing real work here: it is what keeps the wheel deck still while a 30Nm wheelbase argues with your hands.

Key features

  • 2 inch tubular steel chassis
  • Formula and GT hybrid system included as standard
  • Changes between positions in 3 to 5 minutes
  • Tool-free seat changes in under 10 seconds
  • Rated for wheelbases from 0 to 30Nm
  • Pedal plate rated to 180kg of braking force
  • Four wheelbase mounting options
  • Assembles in around 2 hours

Five minutes, not half an hour

That difference is the reason the TRX exists. Half an hour is a job you plan; five minutes is something you do between races because you feel like driving something else. One gets used, the other does not.

The wheel deck, the pedal plate and the seat all move without tools. The pedal plate slides fore and aft and adjusts for height and angle, supporting raised formula, low or angled GT and inverted mounting.

Trak Racer rate the TRX pedal tray adjustability as the highest in their range, which is what a frame designed around conversion from the start looks like.

Four ways to mount a wheelbase

Most cockpits give you one way to mount a wheelbase and expect your hardware to suit it. The TRX offers four: a wheel plate, a Fanatec direct drive side mount, a universal front mount and an Asetek front mount.

That matters because front-mounting and side-mounting suit different bases, and being locked to the wrong one means adapters, drilled holes or a wheelbase sitting further from you than it should.

The rating is 0 to 30Nm, which clears the strongest direct drive units, and the pedal plate is rated to 180kg of braking force. Browse the direct drive wheelbases for what pairs with it.

Colour, and what it says

Black is the version most people should buy, and not only because it disappears into a room. It is the finish that dates slowest and the one that photographs cleanest under the lighting people actually have.

It is also the reference colour for the platform. Every other TRX finish is this rig in a different paint, with identical frame, identical inclusions and identical figures.

If you want a livery rather than a neutral, the Tifosi Red, Silver Arrow, Bull Blue and Papaya finishes are the same cockpit with motorsport colour, and the Alpine Racing TRX V2 carries the team livery and badging.

What comes with it, and what does not

Included: every chassis section, the wheel mount, the fast-adjusting pedal mount, the seat assembly with height and angle adjustment, seat slider rails, rubber feet and an assembly tool kit.

Not included: the seat itself, the wheelbase, the wheel, the pedals and the monitor stand. The shifter mount and handbrake mount are optional extras here, where the TR160 V5 includes the shifter mount as standard.

Monitor mounting on the TRX is an optional integrated single stand up to 70 inches. For triples or quads, a freestanding stand is the route and it takes the load off the cockpit at the same time.

Our expert take

"Black is the one I would buy and the one I recommend by default. Colour on a rig this size is a commitment, and the finish that never looks dated is the one you stop noticing after a fortnight."

"Against the TR8 Pro V2, which is also tube frame, the TRX buys three things: formula and GT conversion in five minutes rather than not at all, 30Nm instead of 25, and four wheelbase mounting options instead of one. You give up an hour more assembly and 207mm more length."
