Trak Racer Computer PC Control Box Shelf
A tower on the carpet next to a sim rig collects dust, catches feet and puts the cables at the exact height a chair leg wants to be. Getting it up off the floor is one of those changes that tidies a whole room.
This is a steel tray that bolts onto Trak Racer tubular monitor stands, including the TR8 integrated stand, and holds the PC case or a control box up where the rest of the setup lives.
Folds pressed into the tray stop the case sliding and the edges are curved rather than cut square, which matters when you are reaching past it in the dark.
Key features
- Steel tray construction
- Bolts to Trak Racer tubular monitor stands
- Fits the TR8 integrated monitor stand
- Built-in folds stop the case sliding
- Curved edges protect the case and your hands
- Also compatible with aluminium extrusion rigs
- Lifts the tower clear of floor dust and cables
- All fixing screws and nuts included
Off the floor, out of the way
The practical case for this is dust. A tower sitting on carpet breathes carpet, and the filters clog in a fraction of the time they would at desk height. Lifting it solves that without any other intervention.
The rest is cable management and clearance. With the case on the stand, the runs to the monitor and the wheelbase are short and overhead rather than snaking across the floor where a caster can find them.
It also looks finished, which is not nothing on a rig people have spent real money assembling.
Details that matter on a shelf
Two features do most of the work here. The folds pressed into the tray stop the case walking under vibration, which on a rig with a strong wheelbase or a bass shaker is a genuine concern rather than a theoretical one.
The curved edges are the other. A flat steel tray at head height with a cut edge is something you will eventually catch a hand or a cable on, and rolling the edge removes the problem entirely.
It is a fixed shelf with no moving parts, which is the right answer for something carrying a computer.
What it fits
It is designed to bolt directly onto Trak Racer tubular monitor stands, including the TR8 integrated monitor stand, and Trak Racer also list compatibility with aluminium extrusion rigs.
That makes it the tube-frame answer in a category otherwise dominated by extrusion parts. If your stand is one of the freestanding tube stands, this is the shelf drawn for it.
The monitor stands themselves are in the sim racing monitor stands, and the rest of the rig accessories in the racing simulator accessories.
Our expert take
"The dust argument is the one that convinces people, and it is the one nobody thinks of first. A tower on carpet pulls fibres through the front filter constantly, and a machine driving a sim rig is working hard enough already."
"The pressed folds are worth more than they look. Anyone running a bass shaker will tell you that anything not physically located on a rig eventually moves, and a computer is a heavy thing to discover at the edge of a shelf."
