Description

Max Flight Stick OH-58D Kiowa Max

The Max Flight Stick OH-58D Kiowa Max is a complete set of OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter controls for PC and Mac: cyclic, twist-throttle collective and anti-torque pedals on an adjustable aluminium frame. It is the fourth generation of Max Flight Stick Kiowa controls, developed with an ex Kiowa pilot.

The cyclic and collective carry the Kiowa's mission functions, from weapon select and missile step to the searchlight, IZLID and engine RPM trim. All 5 axes read through Hall effect sensors and a 12-bit analogue to digital converter, and in-house pistons give every axis a hydraulic feel.

This is the metal version, with the grips and collective front box printed in industrial-grade aluminium. It connects with a single USB cable and works with DCS, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and 2020, FSX, X-Plane, Prepar3D, FlightGear and War Thunder.

Key features

  • Fourth-generation OH-58D Kiowa replica controls
  • Developed with an ex Kiowa pilot
  • Cyclic with 11 mission functions
  • ICS and radio dual trigger
  • Twist-throttle collective with 10 functions
  • Throttle idle release on the collective
  • Hall effect sensors on all 5 axes
  • Piston-loaded hydraulic feel on every axis
  • Adjustable aluminium frame and control positions
  • Plug and play over a single USB connection

A Kiowa Warrior cyclic, function for function

The cyclic follows the OH-58D layout: waypoint, weapon select, ODA switch, flare dispense, missile step, trim release, display select, missile activate, weapon fire, SCAS release and an ICS/radio dual trigger.

Because every function sits where it does in the aircraft, the workflow you learn in DCS translates directly, and you spend less time hunting for keyboard bindings mid-mission.

A twist-throttle collective built for the mission

The collective head carries the flare jettison switch and cover, IZLID, engine start, searchlight on/off and control, channel select, radio select, engine RPM trim and SCAS heading hold/trim, with a throttle idle release on the twist grip.

In-house pistons give the collective, cyclic and pedals a hydraulic feel, and the travel on every control is modelled on the real aircraft. Browse our helicopter controls for more rotorcraft hardware.

Adjustable frame, solid metal pedals

The aluminium frame is adjustable, and so are the positions of the cyclic, rudder and twist-throttle collective, so you can set the seating position to suit your height and cockpit.

The rudder uses solid metal pedals on high-quality ball joints and ball bearings, with two of Max Flight Stick's own pistons providing the resistance.

Our expert take

"The Kiowa Max is built for DCS pilots who want the OH-58D's cockpit workflow in their hands. Mission switches on the cyclic and collective laid out as in the aircraft, pilot-developed ergonomics and an adjustable frame make it one of the most complete single-type sets in the range."

"It is a dedicated Kiowa layout, so the switch functions only map one-to-one in the OH-58D, and it is a floor-standing set that needs its own space. It works on PC and Mac only."
