Flight Sim Throttles

Flight sim throttles give you real engine control instead of a keyboard key. Gamer Gear Direct stocks throttle quadrants, add-on modules and HOTAS sets in Australia, from compact units through to full airliner-style panels, for Microsoft Flight Simulator, X-Plane and combat sims.

Quadrants, modules and HOTAS sets

A throttle quadrant is the airliner and general aviation answer. Levers sit in a row so you can manage power, propeller and mixture with your hand resting where it would in a real cockpit. The Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant takes a configurable lever set across single-engine and multi-engine layouts, and the Bravo Throttle Quadrant Lite is the smaller version of the same idea.

Add-on modules suit a panel build rather than a desk. The MOZA TQA and TQB Throttle Modules are the compact options in the MOZA flight range, while the MTQ Throttle Panel swaps its lever heads between airliner and jet styles. For fast jets, a HOTAS set puts the switches on the throttle itself: the MOZA MTP Throttle Panel and the Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS both work that way.

What to weigh up before you choose

Start with the aircraft you actually fly. If that is Cessnas, turboprops and airliners, a quadrant earns its place immediately. If it is military jets, the switch count on a HOTAS throttle matters more than the lever count. Mixed flying is where the modular panels make sense, because the layout changes with you instead of being replaced.

Then look at where it will live. A desk clamp and a panel mount are different commitments, and a throttle that suits a rig you are still building is not the one that suits a desk you also work at. Pair it with flight simulator yokes or flight sticks and rudder pedals and the setup stops feeling like a keyboard with extras bolted on.

The brands in this range

Honeycomb Aeronautical built its name on civil aviation, and the Bravo quadrants are the pairing most people reach for alongside an Alpha yoke. Turtle Beach VelocityOne covers the all-in-one end: the VelocityOne Flightdeck and the VelocityOne Dual Throttle suit simmers who want throttle control without assembling a cockpit first.

MOZA brings the modular approach, with throttle panels and modules designed to sit in a wider flight setup rather than stand alone. Thrustmaster covers the combat side, with the T.16000M FCS HOTAS and the FCS Flight Pack. Gamer Gear Direct is an authorised dealer for Honeycomb Aeronautical, MOZA Racing, Turtle Beach and Thrustmaster.

Flight sim throttle FAQs

What is a throttle quadrant?

A row of levers that controls engine power and, depending on the model, propeller, mixture, flaps, spoilers and trim. It is the layout used in general aviation and airliner cockpits, which is why it suits civil flying.

Do I need a dedicated throttle for Microsoft Flight Simulator?

No, but it changes how the aircraft feels. Setting power by hand and holding it there is a different thing from tapping a key, and it shows up most on manual approaches and in multi-engine aircraft.

What is the difference between a throttle quadrant and a HOTAS throttle?

A quadrant gives you more levers and suits civil aircraft. A HOTAS throttle gives you more switches, hats and detents on the throttle grip itself, which is what combat flying asks for.

Which throttle suits airliner flying?

A quadrant with enough levers for the aircraft you fly, and ideally an autopilot panel built in. The Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant is the usual starting point for Airbus and Boeing setups.

Can I add more levers later?

With a modular setup, yes. The MOZA throttle modules and panels are designed to be added to over time, which is worth thinking about if your rig is still taking shape.

Do flight sim throttles work on Xbox?

Some do. The Honeycomb Aeronautical Xbox bundle and the Turtle Beach VelocityOne range are built for Xbox as well as PC. Console support varies by model, so check the product page before you buy.
