MOZA R21 Ultra Bundles

The MOZA R21 Ultra represents a genuine step change in the MOZA direct drive range. Where the R9 V3 and R12 V2 use high-performance servo motors and NexGen 4.0 force feedback, the R21 Ultra is built around a zero-cogging flat-wire motor and the newer NexGen Force U1 algorithm. The flat-wire motor technology eliminates the cogging that creates unwanted resistance in standard servo motors, delivering force feedback that is smoother, more linear, and more responsive at 21Nm sustained output.

Gamer Gear Direct stocks three R21 Ultra bundle configurations covering the full range from a complete wheel bundle through to a professional-grade mBooster active pedal setup. This page covers each bundle, the R21 Ultra’s key technology, and how it compares to the R12 V2 below and the R25 Ultra above.

Our take

“The R21 Ultra is where the MOZA range crosses into a different category of hardware. After running it back-to-back against the R12 V2, the flat-wire motor difference isn’t subtle. There’s a cleanliness to the centre feel and a linearity to the feedback buildup through corners that you don’t get from a standard servo design regardless of torque output. At 21Nm the headroom is substantial enough that you are never working against the wheel rather than with it. For drivers building a serious cockpit setup and ready to invest at the top of the mid-range into the Ultra tier, this is the wheelbase.”

The flat-wire motor difference

Standard direct drive wheelbases, including the MOZA R9 V3 and R12 V2, use high-performance servo motors. These are excellent motors that deliver accurate and detailed force feedback. However, all servo motors produce a degree of cogging: a subtle resistance or notchiness that occurs as the motor rotor moves between magnetic poles. In well-designed servo wheelbases, cogging is minimised. It is never entirely absent.

The R21 Ultra’s flat-wire motor eliminates cogging by design. Flat-wire motor technology, used in aerospace and high-performance automotive applications, produces no magnetic resistance between poles. The result at the steering wheel is a centre feel that is genuinely neutral rather than subtly notchy, and a buildup of force through corners that is clean and linear rather than requiring any mechanical compensation. At low torque levels the difference is subtle. At 21Nm sustained, the flat-wire motor’s characteristics are felt clearly in the quality of fine detail feedback.

The NexGen Force U1 algorithm pairs with the flat-wire motor to take full advantage of its characteristics. Where NexGen 4.0 on the R9 V3 and R12 V2 is tuned for servo motor dynamics, Force U1 is designed specifically for flat-wire motor output, delivering feedback that is optimised for the R21 Ultra’s hardware rather than adapted from a different motor type.

R21 Ultra Bundle: entry into the Ultra range

The MOZA R21 Ultra Bundle pairs the R21 Ultra wheelbase with your choice of MOZA wireless steering wheel, with the CS V2P as the standard included option. This bundle suits drivers upgrading just the wheelbase and wheel while retaining existing pedals, or those who want to select their pedal configuration separately. All MOZA wheels connect wirelessly to the R21 Ultra via MOZA’s quick release system with no cable management required.

MOZA R21 Ultra Bundle

R21 Ultra + CRP2 Pedals Bundle: the complete Ultra setup

The MOZA R21 Ultra + CRP2 Pedals Bundle is the most popular starting configuration for drivers building around the R21 Ultra. It pairs the wheelbase with the CRP2 load cell pedal set and your choice of MOZA steering wheel, with the KS as the standard included option.

The CRP2’s 200kg load cell brake sensor measures the pressure you apply to the brake rather than how far you push it. At the R21 Ultra’s torque level, pairing load cell pedal precision with flat-wire motor wheel feedback creates a complete and consistent sensory picture of what the car is doing at every point in the corner. The CRP2 includes throttle, brake, and clutch pedals, supports inverted mounting, and is fully configurable through MOZA Pit House.

MOZA R12 V2 + CRP2 Pedals Bundle

R21 Ultra + mBooster Bundle: the professional-grade setup

The MOZA R21 Ultra + mBooster Active Pedal Set Bundle is the highest-specification R21 Ultra configuration. It pairs the R21 Ultra wheelbase with the mBooster Active pedal, CRP2 throttle, and your choice of MOZA steering wheel.

At this level of direct drive hardware the case for the mBooster is clear. The mBooster’s dual 200kg load cell sensors combine for 400kg of total braking force measurement, paired with a built-in feedback motor that simulates ABS pulses, engine rumble, and G-force effects through the brake pedal. Combined with the R21 Ultra’s 21Nm flat-wire motor feedback through the wheel, the mBooster creates the most complete sensory feedback loop available in the MOZA mid-to-flagship range. You are receiving force feedback through both your hands and feet simultaneously, each tied to different physical aspects of what the car is doing. This setup is designed for drivers in rigid sim cockpits where the rest of the hardware can support it.

What’s included:

Where the R21 Ultra fits in the MOZA range

vs the R12 V2: The MOZA R12 V2 is the top of the standard servo motor range. It delivers 12Nm with a 21-bit encoder and NexGen 4.0 — excellent hardware for most sim racers. The R21 Ultra steps to a fundamentally different motor architecture: flat-wire, zero-cogging, 21Nm sustained, NexGen Force U1. It is a more capable and more refined system. If you are on an R12 V2 and feeling its ceiling, or are building a serious cockpit from scratch and want hardware that will not need upgrading, the R21 Ultra is the right step.

vs the R25 Ultra: The MOZA R25 Ultra shares the flat-wire motor and NexGen Force U1 algorithm. Its unique feature is a built-in true torque sensor measuring actual motor output at 2kHz with 0.1% accuracy, paired with 25Nm sustained torque. For most sim racers, including serious and experienced ones, the R21 Ultra provides more than sufficient performance and headroom. The R25 Ultra is the right choice for drivers who specifically want true torque sensing and the absolute performance ceiling of the MOZA range.

Frequently asked questions

What makes the R21 Ultra different from the R12 V2?

The R12 V2 uses a high-performance servo motor with NexGen 4.0 force feedback at 12Nm. The R21 Ultra uses a zero-cogging flat-wire motor with NexGen Force U1 at 21Nm sustained. The flat-wire motor eliminates the cogging resistance present in all servo motors, producing smoother, more linear feedback through the full steering range. The Force U1 algorithm is designed specifically for flat-wire motor dynamics. Together they represent a different category of direct drive hardware rather than simply a torque increase.

Is the R21 Ultra worth the upgrade from R12 V2?

If you are building a serious simulator setup in a rigid cockpit and want hardware that performs at the top of its class without needing further upgrades, the R21 Ultra is worth the step. If you are on an R12 V2 and not yet feeling constrained by its performance, the upgrade cost is better directed at other parts of your setup. The clearest signal the R21 Ultra is right for you is if you want flat-wire motor feedback quality and 21Nm sustained output as a baseline rather than a ceiling.

Does the MOZA R21 Ultra support iRacing 360Hz?

Yes. The R21 Ultra supports iRacing’s 360Hz direct drive feedback mode, enabled through iRacing settings and MOZA Pit House. This delivers the most dynamic and responsive force feedback available in iRacing.

What is the difference between the R21 Ultra and R25 Ultra?

Both share the same flat-wire motor and NexGen Force U1 algorithm. The R25 Ultra adds a built-in true torque sensor measuring actual motor output at 2kHz with 0.1% accuracy, and delivers 25Nm versus 21Nm. For most sim racers the R21 Ultra provides all the performance they will use. The R25 Ultra is for drivers who specifically want true torque sensing and the absolute performance ceiling of the MOZA range.

What is the mBooster and why is it recommended at the R21 Ultra level?

The mBooster is an active brake pedal that uses a built-in feedback motor to simulate ABS pulses, engine rumble, and G-force effects through the pedal. Its dual 200kg load cell sensors combine for 400kg of total braking force measurement. At the R21 Ultra’s torque level, pairing flat-wire motor wheel feedback with mBooster active pedal feedback creates the most complete sensory picture available in this tier. The combination makes the most sense for drivers in rigid cockpits building a professional-grade setup.

What steering wheel is included in the R21 Ultra bundles?

The standard R21 Ultra Bundle includes the CS V2P racing wheel by default, with the option to choose another MOZA wireless wheel. The CRP2 bundle includes the ESX wheel by default. All MOZA wireless wheels connect via quick release with no cable management required and are fully configurable through Pit House.

Is the R21 Ultra compatible with PlayStation or Xbox?

The R21 Ultra is a PC direct drive wheelbase and is not natively compatible with PlayStation or Xbox. All major PC sim titles are fully supported. For console compatibility within the MOZA range, see the MOZA R3 Xbox Bundle.
