Trak Racer TR8 Pro V2 Racing Simulator Cockpit
The TR8 Pro V2 is the cockpit most Australian sim racers should be looking at, and the reason is the tube. Two inch high grade steel makes a frame that carries a 25Nm direct drive wheelbase without arguing with it, at a price that sits well under the extrusion rigs offering the same torque rating.
It is a tubular steel chassis rather than an aluminium profile one, which is a real design choice rather than a cost saving. Tube is stiffer per kilo in torsion, it assembles faster, and it does not need the ecosystem of T-nuts and brackets that profile rigs live on.
This is the V2 revision of the Trak Racer TR8 Pro, sold here as the frame with the wheel mount, pedal mount, seat sliders and shifter mount. Seat, monitor stand and wheelbase are chosen separately, which is how a sim racing cockpit at this level should work. Buy the frame that suits the room, then choose the parts that suit the driver. Tube, not extrusion, and why that matters
Almost every racing simulator frame above entry level is built one of two ways: aluminium profile, or steel tube. Profile gets the attention because it looks modular and it is endlessly reconfigurable. Tube is the quieter choice and, at this price, usually the more rigid one.
A closed tubular section resists twist better per kilo than an open extrusion, which is exactly the load a direct drive wheelbase applies. When the wheel fights back, the frame either holds the wheel deck square to your hands or it does not, and everything you feel through the wheel passes through that decision.
The practical trade is adjustability. Profile lets you bolt anything anywhere along a rail; tube gives you the mounting points the designer specified. For most drivers that is the right trade, because the specified points are where the gear actually goes.
Twenty five newton metres, and what that buys
Trak Racer rate the TR8 Pro V2 for wheelbases from 0 to 25Nm. That covers effectively every direct drive unit an enthusiast will realistically buy, including the mid and upper tier of the direct drive wheelbases we carry.
The number that matters more day to day is the pedal plate, which Trak Racer rate to 180kg of braking force. Load cell and hydraulic pedals do not care about torque, they care about whether the plate under them moves, and a plate that gives turns a repeatable brake point into a guess.
One hundred and eighty kilos is well beyond what most drivers apply, which is the point. Headroom in a pedal plate means the plate is not the variable in your braking consistency.
Adjustment where it changes lap time
The wheel deck runs on ball-bearing assisted sliders with 130mm of forward and back travel, and the three-point mount sets height and angle on top of that. Together they cover the difference between a low, arms-out GT position and something more upright.
The pedal plate has 100mm of its own travel plus an adjustable bracket for angle. Pedal angle is the setting most people never touch and most people should: getting the face of the brake pedal square to your foot at the point of maximum pressure is worth more than most hardware upgrades.
Seat position comes from the included premium slider rails. Between deck, pedals and seat there are enough axes here to fit the rig to the driver properly rather than approximately.
What comes in the box, and what does not
Included: the chassis, the wheel mount, the fast-adjusting pedal mount, premium seat sliders, a shifter mount, bucket seat mounting brackets, floor-protecting rubber feet, an assembly tool kit and instructions. Budget around an hour to build it, working from the supplied instructions with the supplied tools.
Not included, and chosen separately: the seat, the monitor stand, the wheelbase, the wheel and the pedals. That is deliberate rather than mean. A cockpit at this level is bought by people who already own gear or have opinions about what they want, and bundling a seat they will replace helps nobody.

Fitting your wheelbase and pedals
Trak Racer publish a long compatibility list covering the major wheelbase brands including Fanatec, MOZA, Simagic, Simucube, Asetek SimSports, Thrustmaster, Logitech, Conspit, PXN, VNM, Sim-Lab, SimJack and others, alongside the pedal sets from those same makers.
Two caveats are worth knowing before you order. Asetek wheelbases need the TR-APDD adapter plate, and the Simagic DS-8X shifter needs two mounting holes opened out slightly. Neither is difficult, both are easier to know about in advance.

Monitor mounting and motion
The TR8 Pro V2 takes an optional integrated single monitor stand carrying a display up to 70 inches, on VESA patterns from 75mm through to 400mm. That is a genuinely large screen for a cockpit-mounted stand.
If you want triple or quad screens with this rig, the freestanding stands are the route rather than a cockpit-mounted array. They stand on their own legs, take the load off the frame, and keep working if you change cockpits later. The full range is in the sim racing monitor stands.
The TR8 Pro V2 is motion ready and works with the Trak Racer TR Move motion base, bought separately. TR Move runs D-BOX actuators. That matters when you are choosing a first cockpit, because it means adding motion later does not mean starting again with a different frame.
