MOZA AB9 Active Shifter
The MOZA AB9 Active shifter is a direct drive force feedback shifter system built for sim racers who demand mechanical realism in every gear change.
Powered by the MOZA AB9 FFB base and paired with MOZA Active shifter knobs, this system delivers up to 12Nm of peak torque through dual high-performance servo motors.
Unlike traditional static shifters, the MOZA AB9 Active shifter dynamically recreates resistance, notch feel, vibration and drivetrain tension.
Each upshift and downshift reacts to load, RPM and vehicle behaviour, creating a mechanical experience that mirrors real race cars.
Whether you are driving GT3, rally, drifting or touring cars, the MOZA AB9 Active Shifter transforms gear changes from simple inputs into true force feedback events.
Key features
- Dual servo motors delivering 12Nm peak torque for authentic shift resistance
- Direct drive architecture for immediate and precise mechanical feedback
- Supports H-pattern, sequential and handbrake modes
- MCLS force feedback technology for dynamic load simulation
- 15-bit magnetic encoder for ultra precise positional tracking
- 1000Hz USB refresh rate for instant response
- Aerospace-grade aluminium construction for durability and rigidity
- Intelligent telemetry-based feedback with no plug-ins required
- Open ecosystem compatibility with PC racing titles
- Backed by MOZA’s two year manufacturer warranty
12Nm direct drive torque for real mechanical feedback
At the core of the MOZA AB9 Active shifter is the AB9 direct drive base delivering 12Nm of peak torque and 9Nm continuous torque. This allows the shifter to simulate real mechanical resistance under acceleration, braking and drivetrain load.
During aggressive downshifts, resistance increases naturally. Under heavy load, shifts feel tighter and more deliberate. When traction changes, subtle vibration feedback communicates what the drivetrain is doing.
This is not simple rumble. It is dynamic force feedback that changes in real time.
MCLS technology recreates real drivetrain loading
MOZA’s proprietary Control Loading System calculates and applies realistic resistance curves based on telemetry data.
The MOZA AB9 Active Shifter responds to:
- Engine load and RPM
- Gear engagement tension
- Drivetrain vibration
- Road surface feedback
- Shift shock and mechanical snap
This creates an evolving shift feel that adapts to each vehicle and driving condition.
H-pattern, sequential and handbrake modes
Versatility is built into the MOZA AB9 Active shifter. Using MOZA Cockpit Control software, you can instantly switch between:
- H-pattern mode for classic manual gearboxes
- Sequential mode for modern race cars
- Handbrake mode for drifting and rally
Each mode is tuned to feel purpose-built, with distinct resistance and engagement characteristics.
High precision encoder and 1000Hz response
The MOZA AB9 Active Shifter features a 15-bit magnetic encoder and 1000Hz USB refresh rate.
This ensures every movement is captured with high positional accuracy and minimal latency.
Even subtle adjustments are translated instantly, providing reliable and repeatable shift behaviour across long sessions.
Aerospace-grade aluminium construction
Both the AB9 base and Active shifter knobs housing are constructed from aerospace-grade aluminium alloy. This ensures rigidity under load and maintains tight tolerances over time.
The 5.5kg system weight enhances stability while preventing flex during aggressive shifting. The fanless design maintains quiet operation and reduces mechanical noise.
MOZA Cockpit Control software integration
With MOZA Cockpit Control software, you can fine-tune:
- Shift resistance
- Damping characteristics
- Vibration intensity
- Force feedback strength
- Custom driving profiles
Preset profiles can be saved for different cars or disciplines, allowing you to transition from GT racing to rally in seconds.

Very good quality and solid piece of metal. Easy to install and swap between the two shapes. Price quality ratio is excellent
There are no problems with the product itself. I'm satisfied. I really hope that a software update will fix the issue of frequent shifting errors on the connected AB9.
If the shift stroke could be adjusted through the app, it would be a fantastic shifter.
